A Substance Abuse Counselor counsels people struggling with addictions to alcohol, drugs or other substances. Assists clients in dealing with personal and professional problems related to substance abuse. Collaborates with other health care and mental health care professionals to coordinate services for clients, and works with families of substance abusers. May work in a clinic, health care facility or community based program, or work with clients referred through the criminal justice system.

$21.73 About this Role This role of this position is to walk alongside guests experiencing homelessness and help them move toward lasting life change through the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. This position will serve and guide men experiencing homelessness toward stability, personal responsibility, spiritual growth, and lasting life change through a Christ-centered relationship. What this role looks like Builds trusting relationships with guests through honesty, compassion, humility, and a commitment to speaking the truth in love. Lives with integrity and serves as a godly example, encouraging guests toward Christ-centered living and biblical discipleship. Encourages guests to grow in obedience to Christ through prayer, Scripture, fellowship, accountability, and faithful participation in Christian community. Walks alongside guests with grace and truth, supporting their transformation, spiritual growth, and pursuit of faithful Christian living. Treats every guest with dignity and compassion, listening carefully and providing support as they pursue lasting life change. Models biblical communication, personal responsibility, peacemaking, healthy relationships, and Christlike character. Helps guests apply biblical truth to daily life, decision-making, relationships, work, and personal challenges. Demonstrates servant leadership by meeting guests in their present circumstances while encouraging repentance, growth, responsibility, perseverance, and hope in Christ. What we're looking for Compassion without enabling Strong integrity and honesty Patience with people experiencing trauma and crisis Excellent listening skills, dependability and accountability. Dependability and accountability Experience in confronting difficult behavior consistently and respectfully. Knowledge of substance abuse and recovery preferred. Able to deal in a respectful, caring manner with clients who are emotionally distraught, sometimes hostile and/or verbally abusive. Must agree with Union Gospel Mission of Salem's Statement of Faith and Standards of Conduct. Dependable, approachable and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
