OBJECTIVE:

Under the supervision of the Program Manager or the Residential Supervisor, is responsible for the provision of direct services for youth in the shelter residential program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• HSE/HS Diploma plus 1 year experience working with youth with behavioral health problems preferred.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must be able to read, write, understand & speak English.
• Considerable knowledge of the basic needs of youth, techniques of crisis intervention/behavior management, and the principles and practices of youth supervision.
• Ability to exhibit emotional maturity and good judgment, to include high standards of morals and speech.
• Good physical health and neat personal appearance.
• A broad knowledge of community problems and/or areas of concern involving the youth in the community.
• Must be able to establish an effective rapport in all dealings the clientele of the program.
• A statement of health may be required to meet licensing regulations.
• Must be dependable and flexible with regard to working hours.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Not Inclusive):

• Provides direct crisis intervention services to clients and their families when necessary including providing resources for all referrals coming into the shelter.
• Is responsible for intake services involving new clientele being admitted to the program.
• Will provide life and social skills training for youth in the residence.
• Will monitor educational programming for youth in the residence.
• Will work within a team setting with the Program Manager, Clinical Therapist, Case Manager and other Youth Care Workers to assist the youth in successfully meeting their goals and moving towards a positive discharge from the program.
• Will make referrals and contacts necessary to various social service agencies that may assist the youth in placement after shelter discharge.
• Will assist/monitor clients in managing the day-to-day running of facility.
• Will assist in developing and maintaining a recreation program for clients.
• Will do follow-ups on such referrals/contacts.
• Will maintain files/records of all intake and referrals, including inputting information on the assigned Electronic Medical Record.
• Will assist in meal preparation in accordance to the posted daily menu.
• Will provide transportation for clients when necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is a professional position which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with YDI employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulation concerning confidentiality. Background investigation to include fingerprinting will be required. Physical required at time of hire and may be required every five years. TB Test may be required. Travel may be required. Must submit valid driver's license and proof of satisfactory car insurance under NM Motor Vehicle requirements. Youth Development, Inc. is an at-will employer.
