Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a real difference in the lives of students as a contract Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time opportunity supports a K-5 classroom, fostering an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive. If you are passionate about creative instruction, individualized supports, and helping students achieve their full potential, your expertise could be just what this role needs.
Ideal candidates will have:
Valid Maine 282 teaching certification and CHRC clearance Experience creating, implementing, and monitoring positive behavioral support plans Solid understanding of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for diverse learners Skills supporting students' academic, behavioral, and social emotional growth Willingness to obtain Safety Care training Commitment to collaboration with general education teachers, support staff, and families Your responsibilities will include: Managing a caseload of elementary-aged students with special education needs Developing and adapting Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Utilizing and refining evidence-based behavioral and instructional interventions Monitoring student progress and maintaining timely, accurate documentation Collaborating with colleagues, parents, and related service providers to optimize student achievement Experience in public school settings, strong communication skills, and a student-centered mindset are highly valued.
