Sr. Accountant

Description Robert Half is recruiting a hands-on Senior Accountant/ Consultant for our large privately held mechanical and industrial Engineering client to support month-end close and daily accounting operations. This role requires strong accounting skills, accuracy, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment. This opportunity will be located onsite in Brea, CA. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and complete month-end close tasks, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare and post all journal entries, including bank activity, payroll, prepaids, inventory, and other accruals.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations for bank accounts, payroll accounts, prepaid schedules, inventory, and related areas.
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity with a solid understanding of debits and credits.
• Assist with sales tax reporting and compliance.
• Support audits and provide documentation as needed.
• Collaborate effectively with the accounting team and take direction well.
• Identify process improvements and maintain strong internal controls. Qualifications
• 4-6+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong month-end close and reconciliation experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting workflows.
• Proficient in Excel and accounting systems (ERP experience and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central preferred).
• Team player with strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, follow instructions, and manage deadlines. Requirements
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including substantial exposure to senior-level accounting responsibilities.
• Demonstrated success managing month-end close activities, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliation work.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, debits and credits, and balance sheet analysis.
• Experience performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate support for prepaid expenses, accruals, and inventory-related accounts.
• Familiarity with sales tax processes and the documentation needed to support compliance and reporting.
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software, with preference for experience in Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar platforms.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear communication skills, sound judgment, and a detail-oriented approach to problem solving and deadline management.
