SUBSTITUTE BUS ASSISTANT

The job of supervision para educator is done for the purpose of ensuring student safety by supervising and facilitating activities. Responsibilities vary with individual assignment, but typically include student supervision and maintaining safety, behavior, decorum, and order. This position requires assisting with special transportation needs of preschool, elementary, and secondary students on the school bus ride to school and home from school. Essential Functions Follow and support building and department procedures Encourage and model expected behavior Anticipate problem behaviors in order to minimize and deescalate aggressive behavior of students who are acting out Circulate within an assigned supervision area, as well as facilitate and direct activities in a positive way Assist in maintaining safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas including, but not limited to, cafeteria, playground, corridors, study halls, gymnasium, auditorium, locker rooms, parking lots, crosswalks, detention rooms, and school busses Work cooperatively and respectfully with all members of the school community Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for diversity among all members of the school/department or district community Keep documentation and maintain organized records on a daily basis Participate in training courses in order to enhance skills Perform basic computer skills such as word processing and email Report to assigned duty areas promptly and reliably Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations Work independently with minimal supervision Provide first aid in case of illness and/or injury and report accidents to the building office Perform other duties as directed by the supervisor Minimum Qualifications Education/Training High school diploma or equivalent Current first aid/CPR certification or willingness to obtain promptly Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated skill in communicating effectively with all staff, students, and as a team member, both verbally and in writing Ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner Knowledge of student safety rules and procedures Ability to maintain strict confidentialityWORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be physically capable of kneeling, bending, and standing and have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs., if necessary. May work outdoors in inclement weather. May be required to patrol entire campus on foot, including climbing stairs. Ability to maintain strict confidentialityPhysical Demands :

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unaided and may lift over 50 pounds with the assistance of another person and/or a lift assist. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit; some stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or ordinary infectious diseases carried by students.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Salary Range for Bus Assistants is Min $17.75 - Max $17.75 per hour. Substitutes will accrue 1 hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked. Substitutes who work 630 hours will become benefit eligible for the remainder of the school year.Standard benefits include:
