Job Description

Kapowui will be subcontracting Surf Instructors and assistant for spring and summer of 2026, starting June 1st. If you know anyone looking for a summer job please share this with them. The sun, sand & sea will be your workplace, and the hours are flexible. We are a licensed, permitted, and insured surf company looking for outgoing & active people who would like to earn great money during the spring and summer months. $20 to $50 (depending on tips) per hour, Paid weekly. Part-time work/ full time work (Weekend shifts are more valuable) . June through September 2026.
Instructor requirements:
Must be able to carry up to 30 lbs. Must be able to read waves and surf. Must have a watch to tell time when in the water. Must be professional, reliable and honest. Must be punctual and friendly. Must be able to swim.
Job requirement:
1. Show up on time (at least 5 minutes before your lesson). 2. Clean your lessons wetsuits and boards unless you have back to back lessons. 3. If you are on Acuity Scheduling, you must give the manager notice to block out times you are unavailable. 4. Be suited up and ready for you lesson before they arrive. 5. Be professional. (Do not hit on clients, do not curse, do not smoke near the van, do not come to work intoxicated). 6. Have EVERY client sign the liability waiver. 7. Put your client in the right size wetsuit. If you're not sure, ask the manager or another instructor. 8. Give feedback and / or encouragement on every wave. 9. Do not surf while you are with a client. 10. Never finish your lesson early unless they ask to. Do not give up on them. 11. Your #1 job is to keep client safe. #2 job is to get them standing. 12. If your lesson is struggling with the board, help them! That is your job. 13. If your lesson had a great time, ask for a review (Google is best) & offer a souvenir if they post right away. 14. After your lesson, bring boards back, clean them and stack. Never leave boards behind on the beach. 15. Help rinse wetsuits & hang to dry. Tell every lesson to remove suit inside out. 16. At the end of the day, help with all tasks to wrap up in a quick & efficient manner. All these requirements will help you be a better instructor, increase your tips, create a team atmosphere. You will be rewarded with more lessons, bigger lessons, bonuses, etc.
