Job Description

Northwell Health Cancer Institute | New York's Largest Health System The Northwell Health Cancer Institute seeks a visionary physician leader to serve as the inaugural System Chief of Hematologic Malignancies . This landmark role is designed to advance and expand our hematologic oncology research programs across one of the nation's most dynamic health systems. This role aligns with the Institute's mission to break through geographic, socioeconomic, and access barriers, ensuring that people receive the state-of-the-art, compassionate cancer care with access to cutting-edge investigational therapies. We seek a dynamic individual to build a world-class clinical and translational research program in hematologic malignancies. Northwell Health treats more than 24,000 patients with cancer annually and provides access to over 400 Cancer Institute physicians across more than 25 subspecialties. The Cancer Institute continues to set new standards in clinical care, research, and training across the New York metropolitan region. With the recent acquisition of Nuvance Health, our reach now extends into Connecticut and the Hudson Valley. This leader will be instrumental in shaping our strategic growth as a health system that provides access to research and clinical trials for oncology care. The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research serves as the hub of Northwell Health's research enterprise and a center for scientific discovery and innovation, including the Institute of Cancer Research, where groundbreaking translational cancer research is performed. In addition, a strategic partnership established in 2015 between Northwell Health and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has accelerated the translation of basic science discoveries into patient care through the development of innovative early-phase clinical trials. As System Chief of Hematologic Malignancies, you will have the following responsibilities: Build a Premier Program Design and implement a cohesive system-wide strategy for hematologic malignancies Establish disease-specific centers of excellence with dedicated multidisciplinary teams for: Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin) Leukemia (Acute and Chronic - ALL, AML, CLL, CML) Multiple Myeloma and Plasma Cell Disorders Collaborate with our cellular therapy and bone marrow transplant programs to create a seamless continuum of care from diagnosis through survivorship Drive a Bold Research Agenda Establish and fortify a robust clinical trials infrastructure for hematologic malignancies, including early-phase (Phase I/II) investigator-initiated studies Recruit and mentor physician-scientists to build translational and clinical research portfolios Pursue NCI designation contributions through scholarly output, grant funding, and programmatic development Focus on Academia Foster a culture of academic excellence Develop the next generation of leaders through medical education, fellowship training, and mentorship programs Partner with the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell to advance educational and academic missions Qualifications MD or MD/PhD from an accredited institution Board Certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology Significant clinical expertise and national/international reputation in one or more areas of hematologic malignancies (lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, MDS/MPNs) Demonstrated track record of productive clinical and translational cancer research Proven success in obtaining external peer-reviewed funding Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the Zucker School of Medicine Active or eligible for medical licensure in New York State Why Northwell Health?
