Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher.Certification:
Certification required, Pre-Professional or Continuing Teacher Assistant Certificates. Working with individual pupils or groups of pupils on special instructional projects. Providing the teacher with information about pupils which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning behavioral experiences. Assisting pupils in the use of available instruction resources and assisting in the development of instructional materials. Utilizing their skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign language, arts, crafts, music, and similar projects. Assisting in related instructional work as required. Assisting students with specific health-related activities, as appropriate. Local bargaining agreements may address the specific duties of Teaching Assistants. Such agreements may specify in greater detail the terms and conditions of employment, but the must be consistent with applicable law and regulation.Responsibilities:
Help teachers prepare lesson plans Set up necessary material for classes Track student attendance and class schedules Review material taught in class with individual students with learning challenges Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process Escort and supervise students in field trips and school activities Make sure classrooms are safe and tidy before classes start Assist teachers with various tasks, like grading assignments and informing parents of their children's progress Help students adjust, learn and socialize and report to teachers about possible behavioral issuesRequirements and Skills:
Experience as a Teacher Assistant Familiarity with school administrative tasks and learning methods Great communication and organizational skills Cool-tempered and positive attitude Firm but kind personality A love for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with students, teachers and parents College or associate's degree is preferred Reports to: Building Principal, Responsible to the Special Education Supervisor, and the Director of Special Education.Position Type:
