POSITION SUMMARY
Leads and works alongside a team of fabrication employees in metal stamping, forming, welding, and/or shipping while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity. Actively communicates daily production status, issues, and improvement opportunities to supervision and management. Maintains a visible presence on the shop floor by monitoring machine loading, balancing workflow, and ensuring smooth product flow throughout the department and plant. Provides direct oversight and hands-on training to employees on equipment, tools, and standard work processes. Coordinates closely with other departments to support production schedules and quality requirements. Sets the daily production pace, drives efficiency, and enforces safety and quality standards. Steps in to cover essential production roles or the Production Supervisor position as needed to support operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Clearly communicate daily shift goals, priorities, and production plans specific to metal fabrication operations. Lead pre‑shift safety meetings and conduct PPE checks to reinforce safe work expectations. Assign and adjust work for welders, machine operators, painters, loaders, and material handlers based on skill level, workload, and production needs. Coordinate material flow and production activities to support shift goals and minimize downtime. Actively manage workforce coverage to ensure compliance with break and lunch schedules while maintaining production flow. Apply Lean principles daily to identify waste, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement on the shop floor. Communicate effectively with the Production Supervisor or Manager regarding production goals, safety concerns, policies, and employee performance. Perform routine Team Leader walks to verify standard work is being performed, identify abnormalities, and ensure safety best practices are being followed Demonstrate sound judgment and critical thinking when responding to production, quality, or safety issues. Use production measuring tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and tape measures, to verify product quality. Read and interpret Ascent drawings and blueprints to ensure accurate fabrication and quality compliance. Participate in a minimum of three Kaizen events annually and apply Lean tools to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity metrics. Conduct hands‑on safety training and ensure compliance with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and other safety procedures. Maintain a working knowledge of fabrication equipment, tooling, and inspection gauges across the department. Drive safety improvements and complete required weekly safety audits with documented follow‑up actions. Lead department meetings and oversee daily operations in the absence of the Production Supervisor. Assist with the preparation and review of daily, weekly, and monthly production reports. Maintain overhead crane certification and train new operators in safe and correct crane operation. Education & Experience High School Diploma or GED. Technical school or college degree preferred. Minimum of 5-7 years of welding or fabrication manufacturing related experience 3-5 Years Team Leader/Line Supervisory experience. 1st shift, Monday
