Job Description
Senior Mission Systems Software Engineer Redwood Strong is seeking a high‑impact Senior Software Engineer to develop mission‑critical capabilities, execute backlog items, support pipeline testing, generate key metrics, and integrate with External System Simulators for a mission management and control system. You'll work collaboratively across engineering teams and contribute directly to program increments, demonstrations, and Government reporting. This position is contingent upon Redwood Strong receiving the associated contract award. Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain software applications for OMS-enabled systems Collaborate with simulator teams to ensure integrated functional workflows Develop software capabilities within the CI/CD environment and deliver features aligned with Government‑approved backlog Support decomposition of requirements into actionable backlog entries (definitions, dependencies, estimates) Implement system functionality supporting external system API integrations, security requirements, and operational performance needs Support functional, security, integration, and automated testing across the CI/CD pipeline Develop metrics instrumentation: development metrics, operational metrics, security metrics, functional performance metrics Provide technical inputs for PMRs, Capstone reviews, Demonstration Readiness Reviews, and Software Technical Development Package (STDP) artifacts Contribute to Interface Documentation, Software Development Plan (SDP), Software Test Plan (STP), and architecture refinement Participate in Agile ceremonies including design reviews, demos, PI planning, and sprint reviews Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and minimum of 7 years of software engineering experience on defense or aerospace programs or Master's Degree and 5 years of software engineering experience on defense or aerospace programs Travel to customer / teammate sites as required•25% travel expected Ability to manage one's own time and the ability to work alone or together in a team environment Self-starter and able to break down large chunks of scope into workable tasks Proficiency with languages like C/C++, Java, Python Experience with real-time embedded systems Strong skills in developing distributed systems, APIs, services, and cloud‑native architectures Experience with agile development, user stories, backlog practices, and CI/CD delivery Familiarity with cybersecurity controls, RMF‑aligned development, and relevant DoD guidelines preferred Ability to generate technical documentation for CDRLs, PMRs, and Government‑facing artifacts Knowledge of DO-178 software standards a plus Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Strong communication and collaboration abilities Passion for writing high-quality, well-tested code•optimize systems for performance, reliability and maintainability Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the
