Job Description
The California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) provides retirement, disability and survivor benefits for California's 914,454 pre-kindergarten through community college educators and their families. To learn more, please visit www.calstrs.com The California State Teachers' Requirement System (CalSTRS) is seeking to hire an internal Student Assistant to provide support to the System Security Administration (SSA) Unit. Under the supervision of the SSA Manager, the Student Assistant is responsible for providing access to various CalSTRS systems, ensuring proper processes are followed so only authorized personnel gain access to CalSTRS' computing environment and services. These services are utilized by multiple business areas within CalSTRS and are considered crucial by those entities. This position is located at CalSTRS Headquarters in West Sacramento, CA. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (fall, spring, and winter, if applicable) at an accredited college or university on our affiliation list. Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting. Majors/Fields of Study Computer Information Systems, Computer Technology, Computer Science and Computer Engineering, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a closely related field of study. Work Schedule F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday - Friday, between 8 AM - 5 PM. Hour's dependent on student's school schedule. The final work schedule will be determined by the Supervisor. Compensation $20.60 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Must complete each term with minimum unit requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate student classifications. Proof will be collected at the end of each Spring and Fall term. Basic troubleshooting skills with modern computer operating systems, including Windows 11 and macOS. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams. Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to support users in a professional and courteous manner. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a proven record of reliability and follow-through. Ability to assess situations, identify issues, and take appropriate action or escalation. Effective communication skills—able to communicate clearly through email, phone, instant messaging, and in-person interactions. Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and work groups. Solid time management and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner. Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration (with a concentration in MIS or Risk Management), or a closely related field.
Experience or coursework related to the administration of Microsoft 365, Active Directory, and Exchange. Preferred Qualifications Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Monitor and manage the Ticketing System tool for incidents, change order requests, workflow tasks, and other requests. Provision access and support various CalSTRS systems, web applications and Software as a Service (SaaS) product. Ensure proper processes are following so only authorized personnel gain access to CalSTRS' computing environment and services.
Contribute to support various CalSTRS projects. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation.
