Job Description About the projectOur client, a leading global technology company, is building one of the largest hyperscale data center campuses in the country, a multi-gigawatt greenfield development near Cheyenne, Wyoming. The program includes four large-scale data halls plus supporting buildings, phased over several years. You'll help stand up owner-side cost control from the ground floor.
The roleYou'll be a senior cost professional who works independently and owns your scope end to end. You review, validate and challenge the numbers coming from the general contractor and project partners. You keep client leadership ahead of cost risk, and you build trusted working relationships with the contractor's cost team.
What you'll doManage budgets, commitments, forecasts and estimates at completion across large work packages.
Review and validate pay applications, invoices and cash flow forecasts, and dig into variances between forecast and actuals.
Validate look-ahead forecasts and working capital requests.
Run the change order process from identification through review, negotiation support and approval, including Change Control Board materials.
Track contingency, allowances and risk reserves, and report trends early.
Support accruals, monthly close and forecast cycles.
Produce cost reports, dashboards, KPIs and executive summaries for client leadership.
Coordinate with project management and scheduling so cost and schedule tell one story.
Help build cost processes, templates and reporting for a new program. Skills and Requirements 10+ years in construction cost management, quantity surveying or project controls on large, complex projects.
At least 3 years of data center construction cost experience.
Proven ownership of cost on projects in the hundreds of millions of dollars and up.
Hands-on experience with forecasting, cash flow, accruals, change control and contingency management.
Comfort giving direct, honest guidance to project leadership, then backing the decision.
Ability to work onsite in Cheyenne 4 days per week. Relocation to the area is expected.
Owner-side work: owner-side or owner's-rep cost experience for a hyperscaler, colocation provider or data center developer.
Consultancy background: time at a cost consultancy such as Turner & Townsend, Linesight, Currie & Brown, Cumming, RLB, or Gardiner & Theobald.
Hyperscale scale: experience on campuses of 100 MW or more, or multi-building programs.
Equipment costs: long-lead electrical and mechanical equipment procurement, including buyout tracking.
Contract types: GMP reconciliation, cost audits, and lump-sum versus cost-plus contract structures.
Benchmarking and EVM:
cost per MW benchmarking, plus earned value management and S-curve reporting.
Tools:
e-Builder, Oracle Unifier, SAP, Procore, and Power BI or similar.
Certifications:
RICS / MRICS, AACE
(CCP, CEP, EVP), or a quantity surveying degree.
