Software Engineer (Data & AI Team) - John Deere (Fuquay-Varina, NC) This is a long-term 2+ year contract opportunity paying up to $50/hr , including 2 weeks of PTO . Operating onsite/hybrid in Fuquay-Varina, NC , you will work alongside experienced vehicle data engineers and analysts to build internal automation tools, manage GitHub CI/CD pipelines, and schedule Databricks job workflows—directly accelerating the team's ability to analyze telematics and off-road vehicle data.
Design, build, and maintain Python-based internal tooling and automation scripts to eliminate manual data workflows and enhance developer productivity.
CI/CD & Repository Management:
Own and improve GitHub CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), participate in code reviews, enforce branching strategies, and uphold software engineering standards.
Databricks Workflow Orchestration:
Develop, schedule, and manage automated Databricks jobs, Workflows, and notebooks for large-scale data processing.
Pipeline & API Support:
Collaborate with data engineers on pipeline development and develop or consume REST APIs (FastAPI, Flask, Requests) to connect internal systems.
Technical Documentation:
Write clear documentation for internal tools, deployment pipelines, and automated solutions.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field with 2+ years of professional software development experience (including software internships/co-ops).
Core Language:
Advanced proficiency in Python for tooling, automation, and data scripting.
Git & CI/CD:
Strong expertise in Git / GitHub workflows, pull requests, and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline management.
Data Platforms & SQL:
Hands-on experience with Databricks (or Snowflake/Spark) notebooks, job scheduling, and writing SQL queries for structured data transformations.
IDE & Tooling:
Proficient with VS Code workflows, debugging, extensions, and GitHub Copilot integration. What Makes You Stand Out Experience building/consuming REST APIs in Python (FastAPI, Flask). Familiarity with Databricks Asset Bundles (infrastructure-as-code) or Docker containers. Exposure to lakehouse formats ( Delta Lake , Parquet) or vehicle telematics / CAN bus protocols.
