Position Summary The Application Engineer plays a key role in designing and delivering custom municipal pumping systems from concept through startup. This position combines engineering, project management, customer support, and design. You will work directly with consulting engineers, contractors, municipalities, manufacturers, and our outside sales team to develop complete pump station solutions that meet customer specifications and project requirements. Unlike many application engineering roles, Dakota Pump Application Engineers create their own equipment layouts and manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, giving you ownership of your projects from initial concept through production. Compensation depends on experience. The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation assistance. Dakota Pump/Impel Company does not provide H1-B Visa sponsorship.
Projected Start Date:
Monday, September 21st, 2026 Key Responsibilities Design complete municipal water and wastewater pumping system solutions based on project specifications and customer requirements. Select and size pumps, controls, valves, piping, and related equipment. Develop equipment layouts and manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks. Prepare accurate quotations, bills of material, technical submittals, and project documentation. Manage projects from design to order then ensure a smooth handoff through engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and startup. Collaborate with consulting engineers, municipalities, contractors, manufacturers, and our rep network & outside sales team. Provide technical support throughout the life of the project. Maintain strong relationships by providing responsive, professional customer service. Work Hours are Mondays - Fridays, 8am - 5pm Continue developing technical knowledge of municipal pumping equipment and industry standards. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered. 3-5 years of engineering, technical sales, manufacturing, or application engineering experience preferred. Experience with municipal water or wastewater systems is preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks. Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
