Job Title:
Software Test EngineerJob Description The Software Test Engineer validates vehicle software and integrated systems to ensure they meet functional, quality, performance, and customer requirements throughout the product development lifecycle. Working in a collaborative Agile environment, this role supports the planning, preparation, execution, analysis, and documentation of testing activities for embedded vehicle features and software releases. The engineer partners closely with cross-functional teams to identify, investigate, and validate software and system issues, contributing to the delivery of reliable, high-quality vehicle functionality. This position supports both manual and automated validation efforts, drives continuous improvement of test processes and tools, and maintains test environments to enable efficient and effective software verification. Responsibilities + Plan, prepare, execute, analyze, and document software testing activities for embedded vehicle features and software releases. + Validate vehicle software and integrated systems to ensure they meet functional, quality, performance, and customer requirements across the product development lifecycle. + Work in a collaborative Agile environment, participating in cross-functional planning, reviews, and iterations to align testing with development priorities. + Perform software testing and test execution for vehicle systems, including vehicle-level and user experience (UX) testing. + Document test results, issues, and test evidence clearly and accurately to support traceability and quality reporting. + Develop Python scripts to collect, clean, analyze, and report vehicle and fleet data to support validation and operational decisions. + Build simple tools and dashboards that support fleet decisions, vehicle disposal planning, and efficiency tracking. + Integrate with approved internal portals, databases, and APIs to automatically pull and aggregate data for analysis and reporting. + Test dashboards and tools to ensure data calculations, filters, and reports are accurate, reliable, and aligned with requirements. + Investigate data, tool, or vehicle issues through root cause analysis, identify likely causes, and recommend corrective actions. + Support test automation efforts by creating automated checks for data quality, dashboard refreshes, and tool functionality. + Develop automated and scheduled scripts to reduce manual reporting and identify fleet exceptions or required actions. + Use Python and data analysis techniques to evaluate vehicle status, utilization, mileage, maintenance patterns, and disposal opportunities. + Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to identify, investigate, and validate software and system issues. + Contribute to continuous improvement of test processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. + Ensure test environments, tools, and data sources are properly maintained and configured to support software verification activities. + Adapt testing approaches and priorities to evolving technologies, software updates, and development timelines. + Support the delivery of high-quality vehicle software and system capabilities by providing clear feedback and insights based on test results. Essential Skills + Proven experience in software validation and software testing for complex systems. + Hands-on test execution experience, including planning, running, and documenting tests for software and vehicle systems. + Strong Python skills to develop scripts that collect, clean, analyze, and report vehicle or fleet data. + Ability to integrate with APIs and internal portals or databases to automatically pull and aggregate data. + Experience testing dashboards and tools to verify data calculations, filters, and reporting accuracy. + Demonstrated root cause analysis skills to investigate data, tool, or vehicle issues and identify likely causes and corrective actions. + Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail. + Ability to work effectively in a collaborative Agile environment with cross-functional engineering teams. + BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or an equivalent technical discipline. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with test automation, including creating automated checks for data quality, dashboard refreshes, and tool functionality. + Advanced Python and data analysis skills, including use of libraries such as pandas. + Experience developing automated and scheduled scripts that reduce manual reporting and highlight fleet exceptions or required actions. + Familiarity with dashboard development using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. + Knowledge of SQL and databases, including the ability to query and combine data from multiple systems. + Familiarity with vehicle testing, fleet operations, vehicle lifecycle management, and UX evaluation. + Experience working with embedded software or vehicle systems in a product development context. + Ability to adapt quickly to evolving technologies, tools, and development priorities. Work Environment The role operates in a hybrid work environment that combines on-site and remote work. The engineer typically works on site during the week with the option to work from home on Fridays when on-site presence is not required. The position supports testing and validation of vehicle software and integrated systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams in an Agile setting. Work may involve interacting with vehicle test environments, software tools, internal data portals, APIs, dashboards, and databases to support software verification and fleet-related analysis. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $42.30 - $46.06/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
