• Drupal (Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services) The Senior Consultant, Engineering & Technical Services, serves as a technical leader within cross-functional Agile teams, driving the design, architecture, and maintenance of modern, high-impact digital experiences.

This individual manages backend systems and enterprise content management capabilities for a large-scale federal healthcare platform supporting over 11 million monthly users. The role demands expert-level proficiency in Drupal 11, including custom module architecture, security hardening, and performance optimization to deliver resilient, scalable digital services. A successful candidate translates complex technical concepts for diverse stakeholders, actively contributes to open-source communities, and fosters engineering excellence across the organization. This position requires candidates to obtain and maintain a federal public trust clearance and satisfy all CMS residency requirements. The Sr. Consultant role will work on projects that allow them to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable solutions whilementoring engineers, fostering collaboration, and aligning stakeholders with product and project goals. Role:

Design, develop, and maintain Drupal 11 custom modules, APIs, and configurations to support high-quality, scalable web services Review and contribute to merge requests, ensuring code quality, security, and adherence to development standards Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities and performance issues within codebases Develop code collaboratively within Git repositories using forks, branching workflows, and conflict resolution best practices Manage and maintain DDEV Docker-based local development environments for the team Write and execute Cypress and PHPUnit tests; document implementation and testing steps within tickets to support team transparency and traceability Apply efficient debugging practices using tools such as Xdebug to accelerate development and maintain code integrity Contribute to Drupal 11 frontend development tasks, including theming and Twig templating as needed Apply federal accessibility standards (Section 508 / WCAG) awareness to backend configurations, content structures, and API outputs that affect frontend rendering Communicate and demo Drupal concepts and technical solutions clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences Work collaboratively and independently within a remote agile team environment, participating in agile ceremonies and supporting sprint delivery Utilize standard project tools, including VS Code or PHPStorm, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams Coach and mentor peers on backend development best practices, security awareness, and Drupal architecture patterns Proactively identify delivery risks, escalate issues appropriately, and contribute to mitigation strategies that keep the team on track The Impact You Will Create in this

PROJECT SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

6+ years of Drupal development experience Demonstrated knowledge of Drupal 11 concepts, architectures, APIs, and commonly used contributed modules Proven experience developing Drupal 11 custom modules Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve security and performance issues in code Demonstrated experience with Git collaborative workflows, including forks, branching, conflict resolution, and creating and reviewing merge requests Experience managing DDEV Docker-based local development environments Proficiency with debugging tools, including Xdebug Experience writing Cypress and PHPUnit tests Some familiarity with Drupal 11 frontend development, including theming and Twig Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to nontechnical audiences Proven experience working remotely in collaborative team environments, both independently and as part of a team Proficiency with VS Code or PHPStorm, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams Drupal.org username required Experience engaging with client stakeholders to present technical work, provide feedback on deliverables, and communicate progress and tradeoffs clearly Familiarity with integrating Web Components into Drupal themes Familiarity with React and progressively decoupled Drupal architectures, including integrating React applications within Drupal Familiarity with search solutions such as Apache Solr or Google Vertex AI Search Experience with GitHub Copilot or similar AI-powered development tools, with strong habits around code verification, security review, and critical evaluation of generated output Contribute first mindset with an appreciation for open-source community engagement and generalizing custom solutions for broader contribution Community-contributed or custom Drupal 10/11 code (Drupal.org contributions preferred) Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to debug complex issues across the stack.
