Job Description

Tono mai ki tētahi tūnga ki te Kaunihera o Ōtautahi We're growing our in-house capability and are looking for a Transport Designer to join our Transport Engineering team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a wide variety of transport projects that directly impact our city - from intersection upgrades and safety improvements to traffic calming and bus priority schemes. This is more than a CAD role - it's a hybrid design position where you'll take concepts through to practical, buildable transport layouts, working closely with Transport Engineers to bring ideas to life. About the role | Ko te mahi nei Working alongside Transport Engineers and Project Managers, you'll develop and produce transport scheme designs at the feasibility and concept stage. You'll use your technical expertise and initiative to translate project objectives into practical design solutions.
Your day-to-day work will include:
Developing road, intersection and transport layout designs aligned with standards such as Austroads Producing high-quality CAD drawings and scheme plans using Microstation or AutoCAD Assessing vehicle swept paths and spatial requirements (e.g. AutoTURN) Identifying design options, risks and constraints to support project decision-making Collaborating closely with engineers and stakeholders to refine and improve designs Managing multiple requests and priorities in a fast-paced environment About you | Ko Koe Tēnei You're a proactive and collaborative designer who enjoys solving complex problems and working across a range of projects. You bring both strong technical capability and the confidence to contribute ideas and challenge thinking. We're looking for: A NZCE or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Computer Aided Design(or similar) 5+ years' experience in transport design or a similar role Advanced experience in AutoCAD or Microstation (Microstation training will be provided if needed) Proven experience designing road layouts and transport schemes in line with relevant standards (e.g. Austroads) Experience working in a large, complex organisation with multiple stakeholders Ability to interpret survey, mapping or GIS data into practical design solutions
