Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic School Van Driver to ensure the safe and reliable transportation of students to and from school and related activities. This vital role involves operating school vans in compliance with traffic laws and transportation safety regulations while providing excellent customer service to students, parents, and school staff. The ideal candidate will possess strong driving skills, a passion for working with children, and a commitment to safety and professionalism. Duties Safely operate school vans and paratransit vehicles, adhering to all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Transport students to and from school, extracurricular activities, field trips, and special events on scheduled routes. Assist students with disabilities or mobility challenges, including wheelchair assistance and other accommodations as needed. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including emergency stop procedures and first aid protocols such as CPR. Maintain order on the vehicle by implementing behavior management techniques and ensuring student discipline in accordance with school policies. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking fluid levels, brakes, lights, and safety equipment; report any maintenance issues promptly. Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and students to ensure smooth daily operations and address any concerns or emergencies quickly. Assist with loading/unloading heavy items or equipment when necessary while following proper lifting techniques for safety. Experience Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving, preferably with school bus driving or transit bus operation experience. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations applicable to school transportation. Experience working with children or in childcare settings is highly desirable; familiarity with student behavior management is a plus. Valid driver's license appropriate for commercial or school bus operation; CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred but not mandatory if qualified under local laws. Certifications in first aid, CPR, defensive driving, emergency response procedures for transportation, and child or senior care are highly valued. Strong communication skills coupled with the ability to respond quickly to traffic changes or emergencies while maintaining composure. Ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and demonstrate excellent customer service skills in diverse situations.
