In this vital role, you will ensure the safe transportation of students to and from school and related activities. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in optimal condition before each route. Transport students to and from school, ensuring timely arrivals and departures. Assist students with disabilities by providing wheelchair assistance and ensuring their safety during transit. Follow emergency response procedures for transportation, including emergency stop procedures and incident reporting. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior using approved behavior management techniques. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers to coordinate routes and address any issues promptly. Qualifications Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a school bus endorsement. Proven experience driving school buses or transit vehicles; paratransit or van driving experience is a plus. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. First aid certification and CPR training preferred; willingness to obtain if not already certified. Ability to handle heavy lifting when assisting students or loading equipment safely. Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a bonus for engaging diverse communities. Experience working with children or in senior care environments is advantageous. Familiarity with student discipline policies and behavior management strategies.
