Position Summary The Gate Inspector is responsible for supporting the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of equipment entering and exiting the facility. This position operates inbound and outbound gate lanes, performs equipment inspections, processes interchanges and related documentation, and accurately records equipment and transaction information in the operating system. The Gate Inspector works closely with drivers, customers, vendors, yard personnel, and other team members to support daily gate and facility operations. This position requires strong attention to detail, communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to adapt to changing operational demands in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operate inbound and outbound gate lanes efficiently and accurately to facilitate the movement of equipment entering and exiting the facility.
  • Conduct in-gate and out-gate inspections of containers, chassis, and other applicable equipment for visible damage, defects, or other identifiable conditions.
  • Inspect equipment for visible damage, expired FMCSA inspections, registration or tag issues, and other conditions as applicable.
  • Accurately identify, verify, and record equipment numbers and other required equipment information.
  • Complete and process equipment interchanges and related gate documentation.
  • Enter gate transactions, equipment information, and other required data accurately into the operating system.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment movements, gate activity, and related transactions.
  • Process applicable bookings, redeliveries, releases, and other equipment movement documentation as assigned.
  • Coordinate with yard personnel regarding equipment movements, releases, bookings, and other operational needs.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, team members, and other third-party personnel.
  • Respond to operational questions and provide appropriate gate-related information and customer service as needed.
  • Maintain organized gate, interchange, and equipment documentation and records.
  • Adapt to changing operational demands, equipment volumes, and daily workflow requirements.
  • Follow established safety procedures and consistently comply with required personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive work area and promptly communicate safety or equipment concerns to management.
  • Perform additional duties responsibilities as assigned by manager.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Previous experience in gate operations, trucking, intermodal operations, chassis operations, logistics, or a related environment preferred. Basic computer and data entry skills. Ability to accurately identify and record equipment numbers and other required information. Knowledge of containers, chassis, and related equipment components preferred. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer service skills and ability to interact professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, and other personnel. Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned schedules and shifts. Ability to obtain and maintain any licenses, certifications, credentials, or site access requirements applicable to the position or location. Must successfully meet applicable pre-employment and employment screening requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic gate, equipment interchange, and equipment movement processes.
  • Ability to visually inspect containers, chassis, and related equipment and accurately document identifiable damage or conditions.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use applicable operating systems and technology.
  • Strong data entry and recordkeeping skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to identify and accurately record equipment numbers and related information.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, team members, and other personnel.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, equipment volumes, and operational demands.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow established safety procedures and consistently comply with PPE requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with team members and operational personnel.
Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, and use a computer or other equipment necessary to perform gate inspections and data entry. The position requires the ability to move throughout gate and yard areas and visually inspect containers, chassis, and other equipment. The employee may be required to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions. Pay:
$20.00 - $25.00 per hour
