We operate two steel-hulled passenger ferries, a freight barge and push boat, three buses, and two parking facilities. CTC is the primary transportation provider for a year-round island community, delivering safe and reliable service every day of the year. Position Overview CTC is seeking a professional, safety-focused Part-Time / Relief Captain to join our marine operations team. This position is primarily intended to provide fill-in coverage for scheduled time off, vacations, sick leave, peak traffic periods, and other operational needs. Depending on availability and qualifications, some deckhand shifts may also be available. The Captain is responsible for the safe and timely operation of CTC vessels in compliance with all Coast Guard regulations and company policies. While on duty, the Captain has full authority over vessel operations and safety decisions. This is an excellent opportunity for a licensed captain seeking flexible part-time maritime work in Casco Bay. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Safely operate CTC vessels in varying weather and operating conditions Ensure compliance with all CTC policies, procedures, and safety standards Supervise vessel crew members while on duty Monitor weather and sea conditions and make operational safety decisions as needed Maintain compliance with U.S. Coast Guard and other applicable regulations Participate in emergency drills and procedures Coordinate with terminal staff regarding schedule changes and operational issues Assist with loading and unloading passengers and freight Maintain working knowledge of vessel systems and basic vessel maintenance procedures Respond to emergency or rescue trips during assigned shifts, if needed Provide excellent customer service and maintain a professional demeanor with passengers and crew Operate all CTC vessels as assigned Qualifications Appropriate Coast Guard license and required certifications Strong commitment to safety and professionalism Excellent judgment and decision-making skills Ability to manage crew and vessel operations effectively Strong customer service and communication skills Familiarity with maritime safety procedures and Coast Guard regulations Basic computer proficiency including email and Microsoft Office Familiarity with Casco Bay waters preferred Additional Preferred Skills Ability to perform deckhand duties as needed Ability to assist with barge and charter operations Flexible schedule availability, including weekends and holidays Compensation & Schedule Part-time / relief position Flexible scheduling based on operational needs Additional shifts may be available seasonally Compensation based on experience and licensing
