As we expand, we are looking for an experienced and passionate OTR (Over-the-Road) Class A Driver Trainer to lead the next generation of professional truck drivers.Job Overview:
As an OTR Class A Driver Trainer, you will be the cornerstone of our training and safety programs. You are not just a driver; you are a mentor, a coach, and a role model. In this role, you will provide comprehensive, hands-on instruction to new and developing drivers, ensuring they master tractor-trailer operations, safety regulations, and industry best practices. Your expertise will empower them to build successful, safe careers while maintaining the highest standards across our fleet. This position requires significant time on the road mentoring trainees in a dual-occupancy sleeper cab environment.Responsibilities:
Comprehensive Instruction:
Deliver engaging, practical instruction on all aspects of commercial driving, including advanced vehicle control (manual and automatic transmissions), defensive driving techniques, trip planning, and logging procedures (FMCSA/ELD compliance).Hands-On Training:
Provide direct, in-cab training for pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections, ensuring trainees can identify and address maintenance issues to uphold safety standards.Cargo Securement & Tarping:
Teach and supervise proper cargo securement methods for various freight types, including expertise in flatbed and step-deck tarping, ensuring safety and load integrity.Mentorship & Evaluation:
Assess trainee progress through regular practical evaluations, providing constructive, actionable feedback to build their skills and confidence. Act as a primary mentor, fostering a positive, professional, and safety-first mindset.Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all training activities meet or exceed federal and state regulations, including FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA standards. Maintain accurate records of training sessions, assessments, and certifications.Fleet Ambassador:
Uphold and promote the Clark Transport culture of professionalism, respect, and reliability. Represent the company positively to clients and the public.Experience & Qualifications:
CDL & Experience:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record for a minimum of 3 years. Proven verifiable experience in OTR truck driving.Training Experience:
Previous experience as a driver trainer, instructor, or mentor in a commercial driving setting is highly preferred.Technical Proficiency:
Extensive knowledge of tractor-trailer operation, including manual transmission and air brake systems. Expertise in flatbed and step-deck operations and tarping is required.Knowledge Base:
Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, traffic laws, and safety protocols.Communication & Mentorship:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly. Demonstrated ability to mentor, motivate, and coach adult learners in a professional, confined environment (sleeper cab).Availability:
Ability to commit to an OTR schedule, which includes being on the road for extended periods with a trainee.Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive Pay:
Earn a highly competitive salary, ranging from $95,000 - $105,000 annually, with additional trainer-specific pay incentives.Full-Time Employment:
Stable, full-time position with consistent miles and predictable home weekends.Home Time:
Designed to provide a minimum of two days at home (weekends) for every 5-7 days on the road.Comprehensive Benefits Package:
