CDL Driver Job Description Position Summary The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation, delivery, and/or pickup of company materials, equipment, products, and other goods. This position requires a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, reliable attendance, and compliance with all applicable federal, state, and company regulations. The CDL Driver is expected to maintain the vehicle and equipment in safe operating condition, complete required documentation, communicate effectively with customers and company personnel, and represent the company in a professional manner. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely operate company vehicles and equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Transport and deliver materials, equipment, products, and supplies to designated locations. Load, secure, transport, and unload cargo in accordance with safety requirements. Inspect vehicles before and after trips and report any mechanical issues, damage, or safety concerns. Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, delivery records, and other required documentation. Comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), state, and company requirements. Maintain a valid CDL and all required endorsements and medical certifications. Follow established routes and schedules while making adjustments as necessary for traffic, weather, road conditions, or delivery requirements. Verify quantities and condition of materials being transported. Obtain appropriate signatures or delivery confirmations when required. Assist with loading and unloading materials as necessary. Properly secure cargo to prevent shifting, damage, or loss during transportation. Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle. Report accidents, traffic violations, vehicle damage, or other incidents immediately to management. Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Maintain professional and courteous relationships with customers, vendors, coworkers, and the public. Communicate delays, delivery issues, vehicle problems, or other concerns to management promptly. Perform routine vehicle maintenance checks, including tires, lights, brakes, fluids, and other safety equipment. Keep required permits, licenses, registration, insurance information, and other documentation in the vehicle as required. Assist with general warehouse, yard, or operational duties when not driving, as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Safety Responsibilities The CDL Driver is expected to make safety the highest priority and must: Follow all applicable DOT and FMCSA regulations. Follow company safety policies and procedures at all times. Never operate a company vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any substance that could affect safe operation. Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, or equipment concerns. Use appropriate procedures when loading, unloading, securing, and transporting materials. Operate vehicles in a safe and defensive manner. Qualifications Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Appropriate endorsements as required for the position. Current DOT medical certification, when required. Acceptable driving record. Previous commercial driving experience preferred. Ability to safely operate and maneuver commercial vehicles. Ability to read and understand shipping documents, delivery instructions, safety information, and company policies. Ability to perform basic vehicle inspections and identify potential safety or mechanical issues. Strong communication and customer service skills. Dependable and punctual. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime when required. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to: Sit and operate a commercial vehicle for extended periods. Enter and exit the vehicle repeatedly. Lift, carry, push, and pull materials as required by the position. Load and unload materials and equipment. Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Safely perform all duties associated with loading, securing, transporting, and unloading cargo. Working Conditions Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors. Frequent exposure to traffic, weather conditions, construction areas, warehouses, loading docks, and other operational environments may occur. Schedule may vary based on delivery requirements and business needs. Overtime, weekends, holidays, overnight travel, or overnight stays may be required depending on the position. Drug and Alcohol Compliance Because this position involves the operation of a commercial motor vehicle, the employee must comply with all applicable federal and state drug and alcohol testing requirements and the Company's substance abuse and testing policies.
