Job Description

Physician - Urgent Care (Martinez, CA)
Organization:
U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs, VA Northern California Health Care System Location:
Martinez VA Medical Center, 150 Muir Rd, Martinez, CA 94553 (Community-Based Outpatient Clinic)
Position Highlights Schedule:
Full-time, Monday-Friday; Clinical hours approximate ~36 hours/week, flexible within urgent care framework
Setting:
On-site urgent care at Martinez VA CBOC-acute, non-life-threatening conditions only (after-hours emergencies are referred to 911) Key Responsibilities Diagnose and treat Veterans presenting with minor injuries, acute illnesses, and non-critical conditions Order diagnostic tests (labs, imaging), perform point-of-care procedures, manage medications, and initiate referrals Collaborate with multidisciplinary VA teams to ensure continuity of care and follow-up Adhere to VA clinical protocols, documentation standards, and veteran-centered care guidelines
Qualifications & Requirements Degree:
MD or DO from accredited institution
Licensure:
Full, unrestricted U.S. medical license
Training:
Residency in Emergency, Family, or Internal Medicine with significant urgent care/emergency experience preferred
Board Status:
Board-certified or board-eligible
Citizenship:
U.S. citizenship required (exceptions when qualified citizens unavailable)
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range:
$260,000 - $325,000 annually
Leave:
50-55 days/year (26 annual + 13 sick + 11 federal holidays + CME days)
Retirement:
Federal pension (vests in 5 years) + Thrift Savings Plan with matching
Insurance:
Federal health, dental, vision, term life, long-term care
CME Stipend:
$1,000/year for full-time, board-certified providers
Malpractice Protection:
VA covers liability and tail coverage
EDRP:
Up to $200,000 in educational debt repayment over 1-5 years (eligibility required within 4 months of hire)
