About the Role At Momentum, our gym staff are the heart of the customer experience. You are often the first and last person our guests interact with, and you play an important role in creating a community where climbers feel welcomed, supported, and excited to return. We're looking for enthusiastic, dependable climbers who enjoy working with people, take pride in their work, and can thrive in a busy, sometimes chaotic climbing gym environment. This role combines customer service, climbing instruction, sales, facility operations, and safety. ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
Facilitating the Customer Experience Create an Exceptional Customer Experience Welcome every guest as they enter and leave the facility. Go the extra mile to make customers feel cared for, connected, and valued. Build genuine connections with members and guests through conversation and engagement. Answer phone calls, resolve customer concerns, and serve as a knowledgeable resource. Give facility tours and share your enthusiasm for climbing. Educate and support customers through belay instruction and Experience Classes. Balance the needs of multiple customers while maintaining a positive and welcoming environment. Be Professional and Prepared Represent Momentum in a friendly, authentic, and professional manner. Wear designated staff apparel while working. Maintain a clean, approachable appearance. Arrive on time and be willing to pitch in when your team needs additional support. Take pride in being reliable, prompt, and professional. Know the basics of our business, including our phone number, website, address, hours, gym statistics, and common pricing. Know Our Products, Services & Community Understand Momentum's services and help customers find the options that best fit their needs. Assist members with memberships, including sign-ups, freezes, and cancellations. Verify that everyone entering the facility has appropriate access. Operate our gym management software and point-of-sale system. Stay informed about upcoming events, programs, and seasonal offerings and recommend them to customers when appropriate. Managing Risk Risk management is one of our highest priorities. Gym staff are expected to actively monitor the facility and address potential hazards before they become problems. Monitor climbing areas and proactively identify unsafe situations. Ensure customers follow Momentum's gym rules and safety standards. Verify that every visitor unaccompanied by Momentum staff has a current waiver. Administer top rope and lead belay/climbing tests. Educate customers when you observe unsafe climbing or belaying practices. Take appropriate corrective action when necessary to maintain a safe environment. Be Ready for the Unexpected Working in a climbing gym is rewarding, but it isn't always glamorous. Our staff are expected to be flexible, resourceful, and willing to get their hands dirty. If something needs fixing and you have the skill and time, consider doing it. If something is dirty and needs cleaning, take care of it when you can. If your help would improve a situation for a customer or coworker, step in. Approach unexpected tasks with an open mind and a positive attitude. What We're Looking For Required At least 1 year of climbing experience. Strong enthusiasm for climbing and the climbing community. Customer service and/or instructional experience. Basic phone and computer skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Drive. Current First Aid & CPR certification, or the ability to obtain certification within the first 3 months of employment. Preferred Experience with bouldering, sport climbing, and traditional climbing. Momentum Lead Climbing certification. Physical & Environmental Requirements This position takes place in a busy climbing gym environment and requires the ability to: Work comfortably in a loud, active, and sometimes chaotic environment. Move up and down climbing walls and feel comfortable working at height. Assist with or perform a rescue of a stranded climber on the wall. Stand and walk for extended periods on uneven and unstable surfaces. Regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Visually assess details such as knots, buckles, equipment, and belay technique. Give clear instructions and direction to individuals and large groups. 9:00 AM-11:00PM Saturday-Sunday:
7:45 AM-10:00 PM Availability requirements may vary based on facility needs.
