The Billing & Authorization Specialist will work in our South Jordan location and will work closely with our Billing Supervisor to oversee the practice's revenue cycle operations for our general outpatient and intensive outpatient (IOP) programs in Utah and North Carolina.

Job responsibilities include:

Eligibility & Insurance Verification Verify insurance benefits and eligibility for new clients Identify authorization requirements prior to services Insurance Billing Manage insurance billing for general and intensive outpatient therapy from start to finish Submit claims, resolve rejections and denials and follow up on unpaid claims Manage Optum SL County Medicaid claims including manual submission, admissions, and other detailed reporting Post insurance payments and reconcile ERA/EOB reports Review aging reports and follow up on outstanding claims Authorization Management Track prior authorizations for IOP clients Submit authorization requests and renewals Monitor authorization expiration dates and utilization Administrative Support Communicate billing issues with clinicians and clients Respond to billing questions from staff and clients Maintain accurate and HIPAA-compliant billing records Provide administrative backup to administration team and clinicians as needed Accounts Receivable Monitor aging reports and follow up on past-due accounts Communicate professionally with clients regarding account balance and status Applicants must meet the following requirements : Minimum 2 years medical IOP and GOP level billing experience (mental health billing preferred) Demonstrated experience managing claim denials and insurance follow-ups Experience working with insurance payer portals (Availity, BCBS, Medicare, Medicaid, etc.) Experience with working with Medicare, CHIP and Medicaid including Optum Salt Lake County and Wasatch Medicaid Strong understanding of behavioral health CPT codes (ex: 90791, 90834, 90837, 90853, etc) Experience verifying insurance eligibility and benefits Experience submitting and tracking prior authorizations Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to manage multiple workflows and deadlines independently Working knowledge of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements Must pass a background check Must be authorized to work in the US This role requires someone who demonstrates: High personal integrity and trustworthiness Strong work ethic and personal accountability Ability to work autonomously and manage responsibilities without supervision Excellent organizational skills Clear communication with staff and clients A proactive approach to problem solving We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and cares about doing it well .
