ITG Communications is hiring for a Utility Locator in

Kittery, ME Purpose:

The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role uses locating equipment, maps, and work orders to accurately identify the presence and path of underground facilities. The locator plays a critical role in preventing utility damages, maintaining public safety, and supporting field operations by delivering precise and timely locate services.

Responsibilities:

Perform underground facility locates in accordance with company, state, and utility standards. Read and interpret maps, prints, GIS records, and work orders to determine utility paths. Use locating tools and equipment (e.g., transmitters, receivers, toners) to accurately mark underground utilities. Document all locate activities, including sketches, notes, photos, GPS data, and completed work orders. Respond to routine tickets, emergency locate requests, high-priority projects, and re-marks. Communicate clearly with contractors, homeowners, utility providers, and internal teams. Maintain equipment, tools, and company vehicles in proper working conditions. Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with

OSHA, 811

guidelines, and state One-Call regulations. Immediately report mismarks, damage risks, safety hazards, or potential service issues. Support team members and field operations as needed. Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned. Rotating on-call availability required, overnights and weekends as needed

Requirements:

Education:

High school diploma or GED required

Experience:

Experience in utility locating, construction, telecom, gas, water, or electrical preferred Knowledge of One-Call systems, 811 regulations, and underground utility infrastructure a plus Valid driver's license required

Performs precise, compliant locates that meet company and utility quality standards and reduce dig-related damages.

Field Safety & Awareness:

Maintains required safety protocols, PPE usage, and situational awareness in high-risk work zones.

Communication & Documentation:

Provides clear communication to contractors and internal teams while maintaining complete, accurate field documentation. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and bend for long periods Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs Ability to work in trenches, tight spaces, or uneven terrain Ability to operate hand tools and locating equipment Ability to walk long distances throughout the day Visual and manual dexterity Please note: This is a safety-sensitive position.
