Job Description

We are seeking a dependable, organized, and patient-focused Medical Receptionist / Billing & Prior Authorization Coordinator to join our growing primary care practice. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping patients, can manage multiple responsibilities, and has experience working in a fast-paced medical office. The right candidate will be professional, detail-oriented, comfortable communicating with insurance companies, and committed to providing an excellent patient experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
Welcome patients and provide friendly, professional front-desk support Answer phones, respond to patient questions, and route messages appropriately Schedule appointments and maintain accurate patient information Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and patient responsibility Collect copays, balances, and other payments Submit and track prior authorization requests for medications, imaging, procedures, and specialist services Follow up with insurance companies, pharmacies, patients, and clinical staff regarding authorization status Assist with medical billing, claim review, payment posting, and denial follow-up Identify missing information or coding concerns before claims are submitted Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record Support patient portal enrollment and communication Protect patient confidentiality and follow all HIPAA requirements Assist with additional administrative duties as needed
Qualifications:
Previous experience in a medical office, primary care practice, or similar healthcare environment preferred Experience with medical billing, insurance verification, or prior authorizations strongly preferred Familiarity with Athenahealth is a plus Knowledge of insurance terminology, referrals, copays, deductibles, and authorizations Excellent attention to detail and follow-through Ability to prioritize tasks and remain professional during busy periods Comfortable using electronic health records, insurance portals, email, and office software Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team

From $16.00 per hour
