POSITION
Receptionist/Front Desk Coordinator Nonexempt plus benefits; reporting to the Emergency Services Manager. To Apply Be sure to submit a cover letter with your resume. The Organization The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Catholic organization of laypersons open to all who wish to live their faith by loving and serving the less fortunate. We provide direct aid for housing, utilities, and food to clients in Clackamas and Multnomah counties, and part of Washington County. Position Description The Receptionist/Front Desk Coordinator supports the Emergency Services office, and is the first point of contact for many applicants and visitors. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with people from all walks of life are required, including the ability to remain calm and focused in a high-traffic, high-stress area. Compassion and sound judgment are essential. The person in this position must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, and be at ease working face-to-face with diverse clients in crisis, including people who are addicts, hungry, homeless or facing the loss of housing or other vital services. Clients are highly stressed, and some may be angry. The Receptionist/Front Desk Coordinator must have the ability to work well in a busy environment and to de-escalate tense situations. We will train a team player with strong initiative, high energy, and a dedication to serving others. The ideal candidate will have a constant desire to perform at a high level with minimal supervision, along with excellent organizational aptitude and attention to detail. The position interfaces with multiple levels of staff, volunteers, management and vendors, and is expected to solve problems with efficiency and diplomacy. The Receptionist/Front Desk Coordinator occasionally helps with loading/unloading vehicles, processing donations, distributing food, and cleaning work spaces. Occasional late afternoon/early evening work may be needed. Minimum Requirements High school diploma (at least some college preferred). 18 years of age with one year or more of work history, preferably in a similar position. Able to read and write English using proper punctuation and spelling (second language not required, but preference may be given to candidates with skill in another language). Knowledge of applications for desktop computers and smartphones, including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. Eager and able to quickly learn new technology. Ability to perform all position functions stated in the job description, including lifting, cleaning and other physical requirements.
