Job Description

NOTE:

The City of Oshkosh is hiring a Lead Public Works Operator - Facilities and Grounds to support the daily operations of the Buildings & Grounds Division. This hands-on position leads and works alongside staff performing custodial, facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, snow and ice removal, and related public works activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, train, and work alongside Buildings & Grounds staff. Assist with daily work planning, scheduling, crew assignments, and project coordination. Monitor work quality, safety, efficiency, and completion. Inspect City buildings, public facilities, parks, grounds, sidewalks, parking areas, playgrounds, athletic fields, zoo exhibits, docks, trails, and related amenities. Identify, coordinate, and perform building, mechanical, custodial, grounds, equipment, and safety-related maintenance and repairs. Perform and lead custodial work, facility maintenance, grounds maintenance, setup support, minor repairs, preventive maintenance, and snow and ice removal. Track work completed, materials used, equipment concerns, service requests, and maintenance needs. Coordinate with contractors on maintenance, repairs, inspections, and facility projects as assigned. Support Public Works operations during peak workloads, special events, weather events, and emergencies. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least five years of progressively responsible experience in building maintenance, grounds maintenance, custodial services, parks maintenance, or a related field. Valid Wisconsin CDL, Class A, with no air brake restriction. Related technical training desired. Wisconsin pesticide and ornamental license desired. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a dependable, safety-focused, hands-on leader who can communicate clearly, prioritize work, train staff, use work order systems and mobile technology, safely operate tools and equipment, and perform physically demanding work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
