SUMMARY :

Under the direction of the Landscape Supervisor, Landscaper II is responsible for the cultivation and care of the landscaping and grounds surrounding a business or building. Landscape or maintain grounds of property using hand or power tools or equipment. Performs a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation. Landscaper II will work with, train and assist people with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities in the community on work skills needed to maintain employment and become as independent as possible.

REQUIREMENTS

:

• Valid California Driver License Preferred
• First Aid and CPR Certification (Training may be provided by Desert Arc)
• Clean DMV and background record
• Must wear company issued uniform shirt and solid color shorts/pants
• Maintain professional appearance at all times
• Identification badge must be visible at all times
• Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
• Ability to follow directions
• Sensitivity to the needs of persons with disabilities
• 1-2 years of landscape experience in a commercial setting
• 1-2 years of oversight responsibilities of a work crew preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be courteous and professional in conduct and appearance at all times

• Attend/Complete all safety and required training classes
• Perform basic maintenance tasks including planting, mowing, weeding, raking, emptying bins, managing weed control
• Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, and brooms
• Operate power equipment such as mowers, blowers, weed eater, trimmers and saws in a safe and effective manner
• Working knowledge of pruning and trimming of plants, bushes, shrubs & trees
• Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters and other grounds features
• Install or spread: sod, grass, rock, top soil and decomposed granite
• Use and maintain equipment and chemicals in a safe and appropriate manner
• Maintain equipment to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness
• Cooperate and communicate with supervisors regarding all aspects of the department
• Ensure clients wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment based on the task being performed
• Assist & train clients with daily job duties to meet job standards
• Provide ongoing training to clients on safety, team building, public interactions skills and proper work ethics to be successful in the community
• Assess and work on barriers that may arise to assist clients in maintaining job placement
• Complete all paperwork on a timely basis as required by funding source using the person-centered planning format, to include but not limited to Monthly Calendar, IHSP tracking form, Daily Progress reports, time studies, Semi Annual/Annual Review paperwork
• Report all incidents regarding health, safety or behavioral incidents to the Landscape Maintenance Supervisor
• Monitor/Supervise clients at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Physical Requirements:

• Lifting and moving Lift a minimum of 40 pounds Pulling and Pushing Bending and crouching

Work Environment:

This position requires long periods of standing, bending, stooping & squatting while working in inclement weather.

Physical Demands:

The employee must have the ability to lift, pull, push, run and manipulate/use adaptive equipment such as the ability to operate heavy machinery and gross motor and fine motor coordination. The employee must be able to perform CPR and administer First-Aid. The position requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time. The position requires ability to operate an automobile and heavy machinery. The employee must be able to climb stairs and provide services to clients in various public/community settings. Note duties are subject to change due to agency growth or restructure. Daily operations are also subject to change based on outcome measurements of systems incorporated to program operations.
