A Carpenter builds and repairs wood frameworks or structures for houses and buildings, or builds and installs wood cabinets, furniture or other fixtures. May specialize in residential, commercial or industrial carpentry.
Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Carpentry Lead Man / Working Crew Leader to oversee day-to-day site execution on light residential construction projects. In this role, you will lead a small, dedicated crew (1-2 additional employees), manage on-site materials and daily progress, and perform high-quality hands-on framing, finish carpentry, and cabinet installation. You will work directly under a GCC Project Manager , who acts as the primary client contact, allowing you to focus on crew management, subcontractor oversight, craftsmanship, and daily job site progress.
Key Duties & Responsibilities Crew & Site Leadership:
Lead and direct a crew of 1-2 GCC employees on-site. Provide daily updates, material tracking, and progress reports to the Project Manager. Maintain clean, safe, and professional job site conditions daily. Take daily progress photos using a provided smartphone and upload them to the corporate server. Inspect and monitor subcontracted trades to ensure specs, quality, and tolerances are met. Meet with local building inspectors for progression inspections as needed.
Hands-On Carpentry & Construction:
Read and interpret drawings, sketches, and engineering reports. Set up dust control and site protection inside customer homes. Perform layout, cutting, framing, and structural construction for major and intermediate framing. Construct and install exterior deck framing, stairs, decking, and handrail systems. Install exterior/interior door units, window units, and prefabricated interior stair units. Install cabinets, cabinet trim, pre-packaged vanities, and integral tops. Install finish carpentry trim (baseboard, casing, crown molding, chair rail, shoe molding) and finish hardware. Perform minor drywall, painting, and fixture disconnect/re-sets on smaller sole-source projects.
Material & Safety Management:
Perform material take-offs and procure materials as required. Safely work off ladders, company scaffolding, and subcontracted scaffolding using appropriate PPE and fall protection.
High school diploma or equivalent. 2+ years of formal technical training. 10+ years of actual, related residential construction experience in a similar working lead/carpentry role.
Skills & Tools:
Master-level knowledge of structural framing, finish carpentry, and cabinet installation. Ability to perform basic construction math and cost tracking. Must own and operate a complete set of carpentry hand and power tools.
Transportation & Driving:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (must provide or authorize record check). Reliable personal vehicle suitable for work (truck or van strongly preferred). CDL is a plus (may be required depending on fleet assignments).
Availability & Background:
Ability to participate in a 24/7 rotating emergency services schedule (non-negotiable). Must pass a pre-employment drug screening Must pass a background check successfully
Work Environment & Physical Demands Environment:
Indoor and outdoor residential sites exposed to varying weather conditions (hot/cold), as well as elevated work areas.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to safely lift and move up to 50 lbs, as well as crouch, kneel, stand, reach overhead, and access tight spaces (no confined space work required).
