A Construction Helper or Worker works at construction sites and projects. Works as a skilled trades worker such as bricklayer, carpenter, painter, electrician or mason, or operates construction equipment.
WE'RE LOOKING FOR A LEADER WHO TAKES PRIDE IN BUILDING THINGS RIGHT H&H
Custom Buildings is looking for an experienced Construction Crew Leader to lead crews building post-frame buildings and homes. We're looking for more than construction experience. We want someone who takes ownership of their work, does things right the first time, treats people with respect, and is always looking for ways to improve.
Our three core values are:
ACCOUNTABILITY
— We stand behind our work and honor our commitments.
BUILT RIGHT
— Doing it right once beats fixing it later.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
— We continually improve our skills, methods, equipment, materials, and systems to build better and more efficiently. If those principles describe how you already approach your work, you may be a good fit for our team.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is not an entry-level or supervisory-only position. You will be responsible for leading a crew, maintaining quality and production standards, planning ahead, solving problems, and setting the example on the jobsite. This is a hands-on leadership position. You will wear your tool bags and work alongside your crew. A good leader at H&H doesn't simply tell people what to do. You are expected to teach, communicate, encourage, hold people accountable, and demonstrate the standard through your own work.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Lead crews on post-frame and stick-frame construction projects. Read plans and make sure work is completed correctly. Maintain H&H's quality standards — if something isn't right, address it rather than passing the problem down the line. Plan ahead so tools, fasteners, brackets, materials, equipment, and supplies are ready when needed. Identify potential problems before they become expensive problems. Keep projects moving efficiently without sacrificing workmanship or safety. Communicate problems, mistakes, delays, and material needs early. Maintain clean, professional, and organized jobsites. Maintain company vehicles and equipment, including fueling and basic daily upkeep. Perform routine equipment checks, including oil, engine fluids, hydraulic fluids, and greasing equipment as required. Communicate professionally with customers, office staff, subcontractors, and crew members. Teach less-experienced employees and help them improve their skills. Maintain healthy crew morale through clear expectations, encouragement, accountability, and respect. Take responsibility for your crew and the quality of work produced. Look for better, safer, and more efficient ways to complete our work. Represent H&H professionally whenever you are on a customer's property.
THE PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You may be a good fit at H&H if you: Take pride in leaving behind work you would be comfortable putting your own name on. Admit mistakes and help fix them rather than hiding them or blaming someone else. Do the right thing even when nobody is watching. Believe quality and efficiency should work together — not compete with each other. Plan ahead instead of constantly reacting to preventable problems. Take care of company tools, equipment, vehicles, materials, and customers' property. Can receive constructive criticism without becoming defensive. Are willing to teach others and are also willing to learn. Treat laborers, coworkers, subcontractors, customers, and office personnel with respect. Communicate problems early instead of waiting until they become emergencies. Understand that being a leader means being held to a higher standard. Want to become better at your trade instead of simply doing things the way they've always been done.

OUR CULTURE
At H&H, how the work gets done matters. We expect leaders to build people up rather than tear them down. Crew members should know what is expected of them, be held accountable when necessary, and be treated with respect. We expect honesty with customers, coworkers, and the company. We expect employees to take responsibility for their work, protect company and customer property, work safely, and speak up when something isn't right. Lying, stealing, falsifying time, intentionally hiding mistakes, abusive behavior, disrespect toward customers or coworkers, unsafe behavior, and knowingly accepting poor-quality work are not compatible with our company. We aren't looking for someone who believes they already know everything. We're looking for someone who knows their trade, takes pride in their work, can lead people, accepts responsibility, and still wants to get better.
