Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Construction Inspector to support a major Southern California public water agency on a construction project at a water facility near Castaic Lake. The project consists of earthwork and reinforced concrete containment pads. The Inspector will serve as the agency's eyes in the field, verifying that all earthwork and concrete work conforms to contract plans, specifications, and applicable codes, and may serve as the project's resident inspector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspect earthwork operations including excavation, subgrade preparation, grading, backfill, and compaction. Inspect reinforced concrete construction including forms, reinforcing steel placement, embeds, concrete placement, finishing, and curing. Perform field tests, take samples, prepare test specimens for laboratory work, and interpret results; coordinate with materials testing personnel. Verify materials incorporated into the work conform to approved submittals and contract specifications. Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications, and prepare detailed sketches as needed. Coordinate inspections with the contractor, other trades, and operation of existing facilities. Monitor environmental compliance and storm water pollution prevention (SWPPP) measures. Keep thorough and accurate records of work performed, including crew makeup, equipment make and model, and materials used. Produce detailed daily inspector reports using agency-approved report forms. Take photographs and video of work in progress and maintain the project photo and video record. Enforce compliance with contract specifications and track deficiencies through resolution.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum 8 years of experience in a craft or general construction position at the journeyman level, including at least 3 years of inspection experience. Working knowledge of earthwork, grading, and reinforced concrete construction means and methods. Knowledge of applicable construction codes. Ability to read and comprehend contract specifications, detailed drawings, diagrams, and construction blueprints. Strong written and oral communication skills. Working proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS ACI
Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I certification. ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector certification. Experience serving as a resident inspector on public works projects. Experience on water, wastewater, or utility infrastructure projects.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Ability to climb, crawl, squat, kneel, reach and/or twist body. Ability to work in cramped quarters or confined spaces, including areas that may require respirator use. Ability to lift objects up to 35 pounds. Compliance with Cal/OSHA safety orders, site security procedures, and all agency safety requirements. $75.00 - $85.00 per hour
