Job Description

Reports To:
Weld Shop Foreman Basic Functions:
Under the guidance of the Welding Shop Foreman, the fitter/welder fabricates and repairs shells And tube heat exchangers using burning, fitting and welding procedures
Job Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Interprets drawings and specifications to determine best sequence of fabrication
  • Welds carbon steel and stainless-steel components using weld procedures
  • Fit-up ANSI flanges to pipe, forged flanges to shells and profile nozzles to match required shell.
  • Lay-out nozzles and other sub assembly location in shell components
  • Burns and grinds nozzle cutouts in shell to meet engineering tolerances
  • Uses flame cutting torch, carbon arc gouging, plasma arc, portable grinders and other tools.
  • Uses overhead cranes, jib cranes and other lifting/ rigging devices to move components in a safe manner.
  • Uses STICK (SMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding processes
  • Completing jobs based on standard shop procedures
  • Conforms to shop quality practices and procedures
  • Checks fit-ups of other welders using appropriate tools
  • Conforms to safety requirements of the shop
  • Works productively with others to help determine best solutions
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Knowledge
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience; sufficient knowledge of fitting/weld procedures, comprehension & application of algebra and geometry Skills
  • Blueprint reading, read and write the English language & ability to pass ASME welding test. Job shop/field fabrication required Working Conditions
  • Cold, heat, dirty, dusty, noisy, must lift 60lbs, must be able to bend, lift, push, pull, climb, squat, crawl and stand for prolonged periods of time Authorized to work in the U.
