Job Description

Town of Ballston Job Vacancy Announcement Motor Equipment Operator The Town of Ballston is seeking to fill one (1) full-time position for a Motor Equipment Operator in the Water & Sewer and Highway Departments. This is a non-competitive class position, but the successful candidates must meet the minimum qualifications established by the Saratoga County Department of Human Resources (see below).
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Operates an excavator, heavy-duty paving roller, backhoe, front end loader, bulldozer, sweeper, road grader and other types of heavy equipment; Operates heavy duty trucks, or trailer trucks in connection with the transporting or collection of large quantities of materials or heavy-duty supplies; Climb, trim, fell and remove trees. Position will be responsible for operating a chainsaw and bucket truck, oversee ground hands, chipping, and performing highly skilled work on trees; Plows snow, and is available for call-in to plow snow during the winter months; Performs manual labor, such as assisting in the loading of trucks, digging, cleaning culverts, repairs water mains, and assists and performs related work with the water department; Makes minor repairs and assists in maintaining automotive equipment; Must be available for afterhours call-in and must respond within a reasonable time; Perform additional duties, as directed by the Highway Superintendent / Water Superintendent.
Minimum Qualifications:
At time of appointment, the candidate must at least be in possession of a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License, certified to operate commercial equipment within the boundaries of New York State with required endorsements. Experience operating heavy equipment is preferred. This is a Union covered position. Starting pay for this position will be $29.40/hr.
