Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Looking for a rewarding contract opportunity to make a daily impact in educational settings? This position supports hard of hearing and deaf students in middle and high school by actively facilitating communication and learning, working closely with both students and educators. Full-time hours offer consistency, and your preference for age group can be accommodated.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language is essential. Certified by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf or an EIPA score of 4.0 or above; ESSE-I/R or
NAD/ACCI
assessment also accepted. EIPA scores under 4.0 are welcome to apply and will be considered for an ASL Paraeducator position. Ability to provide clear, effective sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting in a fast-paced classroom environment. Experience assisting students academically in subjects like reading, writing, and math, as well as guidance with vocational and daily living skills. Comfortable supporting students during various activities—both in the classroom and in outdoor/community settings.
Responsibilities:
Deliver interpreting services to ensure effective communication between hard of hearing/deaf students, peers, teachers, and staff. Support students in understanding and engaging with classroom material and group activities. Collaborate with school personnel to foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Monitor student participation throughout the school day, providing guidance as needed. Opportunity to express preference for middle or high school assignments.
