This merged role combines Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral intervention expertise with proactive building safety monitoring to improve overall school culture and climate. The Specialist builds constructive relationships with students and staff, implements evidence-based behavior support plans, and maintains building security protocols to ensure academic success and physical safety for all occupants. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Tier 2 & Tier 3 Behavioral Intervention Serves as a primary behavior supports/interventions Participates in Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) student meetings. Monitors and supports the implementation fidelity of PBIS Tiers 1 and 2 across building environments. Facilitates Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) groups and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) intervention groups. Serves as the adult liaison in Restorative Practices processes and facilitates restorative student circles. Building Safety & Security Supervision Monitors assigned building areas continuously for potential security risks or safety concerns. Performs routine patrols of corridors, grounds, restrooms, and locker rooms to maintain a safe campus. Controls building access points and supports daily entry operations using EVOLV and on-site screening equipment. Supervises hallway transition times, verifies hall pass authenticity, and escorts students as needed. Assists with student supervision during lunch periods and crowd management during school events and emergencies. Crisis Intervention & Incident Management Maintains a calm, professional demeanor during high-stress situations and active crises. Employs proactive conflict resolution and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention physical de-escalation strategies when necessary. Intervenes safely to break up physical altercations and manage confrontational scenarios. Coordinates directly with school administration and building emergency teams during safety incidents. Accurately and consistently documents all behavioral and security incidents during designated work hours. District Alignment & Professional Responsibilities Aligns daily practices with RUSD strategic planning goals and the North Star Vision. Upholds strict confidentiality concerning student, family, and personnel records. Demonstrates core district values of student-centered decision-making, respect, unity, high expectations, diversity, strong relationships, and equity. Executes other position-related tasks as assigned by building and district administrators. Candidate Qualifications Education & Certification Requirements Required Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with youth in a supportive or supervisory capacity. Preferred Qualifications CPR and/or AED training. Experience with the needs of a diverse student population. Active involvement with youth in the community. Must possess or complete district-provided certification training in: CSTAG (Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines) NVCI (NonViolent Crisis Intervention) ALICE (Alert. Lockdown. Inform. Counter. Evacuate.) EVOLV (Security Screening) Restorative Practices and conflict resolution Youth Mental Health First Aid Trauma-Sensitive Schools applications Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Comprehensive knowledge of IDEA, state special education statutes, and behavioral curriculum design. Proven capability to establish positive relationships with a diverse student population and school staff. Strong background in conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and behavior regulation strategies. Demonstrated ability to facilitate multidisciplinary team meetings and deliver effective professional learning. Ability to work independently under dual supervision (building and district levels).
Physical Demands & Work Environment Movement:
Ability to walk and stand for up to 70% of the workday.
Emergency Response:
Capability to move or run quickly through hallways and stairwells during emergency interventions.
Physical Effort:
Ability to perform light physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance.

Dynamic educational environment characterized by frequent interruptions, background noise, and active student movement.
