Pet Care and Puppy Enrichment Specialist Central Bark Jacksonville Jacksonville, FL Job Details Part-time From $15 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Opportunities for advancement Qualifications Companion animal handling Customer communication Outdoor work experience Greeting customers Mops Customer engagement Communication with pet owners Full Job Description Position Summary The Pet Care & Puppy Enrichment Specialist is a part-time position responsible for supporting the care of our daycare and boarding dogs, maintaining a clean and sanitary facility, and helping facilitate our Saturday Puppy Hour program. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that requires someone who is dependable, a quick learner, comfortable working independently, and willing to jump in wherever needed. Because this position plays an important role in our Puppy Hour program, strong customer service and communication skills are essential. Team members must be comfortable welcoming new pet parents, answering questions, and speaking confidently with potential customers about Central Bark's services and programs. This position requires working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages, and personalities in both indoor and outdoor environments. Central Bark operates 365 days a year, and some holiday availability may be required based on business needs.
Schedule:
Approximately 15-20 hours per week , including every Saturday plus 1-2 weekday shifts as needed . Typical Time Allocation 40% Cleaning, sanitation, laundry, and facility maintenance 40% Feeding, medications, crating, dog care, and assisting with daily operations 20% Facilitating Puppy Hour, supervising puppy play, and communicating with current and potential customers Opportunities for increased responsibility and advancement are based on initiative, performance, reliability, and demonstrated leadership. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with both dogs and people . The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, outgoing, observant, and able to learn new procedures quickly. This role requires someone who can be given a list of responsibilities and confidently work through them without needing constant direction. Attention to detail is especially important when completing cleaning procedures, feeding dogs, administering medications, documenting care, and maintaining a safe environment. Because Saturdays involve regular interaction with new and potential customers, we're also looking for someone who is friendly, professional, and comfortable starting conversations, answering questions, and explaining our daycare, boarding, grooming, enrichment, and other services. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Puppy Hour & Customer Experience Help facilitate our weekly Saturday Puppy Hour program. Welcome puppy parents and create a friendly, professional first impression of Central Bark. Safely manage and supervise puppies during structured socialization and play. Monitor puppy body language, play styles, comfort levels, and interactions to help maintain a positive and safe environment. Help puppies build confidence through appropriate play, handling, exploration, and social experiences. Intervene appropriately when puppies become overwhelmed, overstimulated, or need a break from play. Communicate with puppy parents about their puppy's experience and answer basic questions about puppy behavior and socialization. Become knowledgeable about Central Bark's services and confidently explain our daycare, boarding, grooming, enrichment, and other programs to current and potential customers. Help interested puppy parents understand next steps for transitioning into our daycare program when age appropriate. Provide excellent customer service during Puppy Hour, drop-off, pick-up, tours, and other customer interactions. Maintain a welcoming, organized, and professional environment for visiting pet parents. Daily Dog Care & Operations Manage a playgroup of daycare dogs safely Prepare and serve meals according to each dog's individual feeding instructions. Administer medications accurately and document them as required. Safely leash, collar, crate, and handle dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and personalities. Assist with moving dogs between play areas, crates, cottages, outdoor areas, and other parts of the facility. Monitor dogs for signs of illness, injury, stress, or behavioral concerns and immediately communicate concerns to management. Assist with daycare, boarding, enrichment, and other dog-care responsibilities as needed. Provide basic hands-on care, including occasional brushing or bathing when necessary. Accurately document feeding, medications, behavior observations, incidents, and other required daily information. Administer basic first aid when necessary and respond appropriately during emergency situations. Cleaning & Facility Operations Cleaning and sanitation are a significant part of this position. Team members should be comfortable performing physical cleaning tasks throughout each shift.
Responsibilities include:
Cleaning and disinfecting crates, cottages, kennels, play areas, equipment, and other dog-care spaces. Sweeping and mopping floors. Washing dishes, food bowls, and water bowls. Completing and folding laundry. Removing waste and maintaining clean outdoor areas. Cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces and equipment. Restocking supplies and keeping work areas organized. Following all required cleaning, sanitation, and disinfecting procedures accurately. Completing assigned cleaning responsibilities independently and thoroughly. Helping maintain a safe, clean, and professional environment for dogs, customers, and team members. Team Support Work collaboratively with team members and management while also being comfortable completing assigned responsibilities independently. Be willing to step into different areas of the facility and assist where needed. Learn new procedures quickly and retain training provided. Manage time effectively and recognize what needs to be completed without requiring constant supervision. Communicate concerns, questions, or unusual situations promptly to management. Assist with onboarding and training new team members as assigned. Follow all company policies, procedures, cleaning protocols, and safety requirements. Qualifications To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working with dogs is preferred but not required. Experience may include professional animal care, volunteer work, pet ownership, or participation in dog training or behavior education. Previous customer service, hospitality, retail, or sales experience is a plus. Experience working independently in a fast-paced environment is preferred. Required Qualifications Availability to work every Saturday , plus 1-2 weekday shifts as needed. Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Comfortable speaking with new and potential customers about Central Bark's services. Quick learner who can retain instructions and apply training independently. Strong work ethic and willingness to complete cleaning and physical tasks throughout the shift. Ability to work independently without requiring constant supervision. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures consistently. Ability to remain calm, make sound decisions, and react quickly in fast-paced or emergency situations. Ability to recognize canine body language and identify signs of stress or conflict after training. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions while accurately documenting information and completing assigned tasks. Dependable attendance, punctuality, and reliability. Positive, professional attitude and willingness to work as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds , including dogs, crates, and bags of food. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform physically demanding work throughout a shift. Ability to safely leash, collar, restrain, and handle dogs of varying sizes, breeds, and temperaments. Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, laundry, and sanitation. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
