Salary:
$25 - $35 per hour A bit about us: Founded more than 35 years ago and based in Akron, Ohio, we design and manufacture custom molds, tooling, patterns, fixtures, and prototypes for customers across a broad range of industries. Our operation combines advanced CNC machining, fully integrated 3D CAD/CAM technology, skilled craftsmanship, and more than 100 years of combined industry experience. Work on custom molds, tooling, fixtures, patterns, and prototypes rather than repetitive high-volume production Operate modern Haas vertical machining centers and gain exposure to large-format 5-axis equipment Machine a wide range of materials, including aluminum, tooling board, foam, wood, plastics, and composites Join an established, specialized operation with more than 35 years in business Contribute to projects serving aerospace, transportation, marine, recreational vehicle, energy, building-products, and other industrial markets Work alongside experienced mold, pattern, machining, and finishing professionals Job Details Key Responsibilities and Duties Set up and operate CNC vertical machining centers used to manufacture custom molds, tooling, fixtures, patterns, prototypes, and precision components Read and interpret blueprints, dimensional drawings, CAD models, setup documentation, and job specifications Select and install cutting tools, workholding, fixtures, and proper machine offsets Establish work coordinates, tool lengths, speeds, feeds, and machining sequences Perform first-piece inspections and verify dimensions throughout the machining process Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges, and other precision measuring equipment Monitor machining operations and make necessary offset or program adjustments Troubleshoot tooling, finish, dimensional, workholding, and machining-process issues Machine aluminum and potentially additional materials such as tooling board, foam, plastics, wood, and composites Produce low-volume, one-off, and custom work where setups and specifications may change from project to project Inspect finished work for dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and conformity to customer requirements Perform deburring, cleanup, and basic finishing as required Maintain machines, tooling, fixtures, and a clean, safe work area Work with programmers, designers, patternmakers, finishers, and project personnel to complete projects accurately and on schedule Follow all shop safety, quality, and documentation requirements
Qualifications Needed:
High school diploma or GED; machining, CNC, or manufacturing training is preferred Minimum 3 years of hands-on CNC milling experience in a machining, mold, tooling, prototype, or job-shop environment Experience independently setting up and operating CNC vertical machining centers Experience with Haas CNC equipment is strongly preferred Ability to read blueprints, understand dimensional specifications, and work from setup documentation Experience selecting tooling, establishing offsets, securing workpieces, and proving out setups Ability to use standard precision measuring and inspection equipment Ability to make machine offsets and basic CNC program edits Experience machining aluminum or other nonferrous materials Proven ability to produce accurate custom or low-volume components without constant supervision Willingness to work with varied materials, changing setups, and complex one-off projects
Preferred:
Mold, die, tooling, pattern, fixture, or prototype machining experience Experience with Haas VF-series vertical machining centers Experience machining contoured surfaces, cavities, large workpieces, or complex geometries Working knowledge of G-code Experience with CAD/CAM-generated CNC programs Experience with 3-axis machining Exposure to simultaneous 5-axis machining or large-format CNC gantry routers Experience machining tooling board, foam, plastic, wood, or composite materials Knowledge of mold rework, repair, or reconditioning Interested in hearing more?
