Job Description

Job Title:
Project Manager - Powder Foundry Equipment Implementation Job Description This Project Manager role leads the introduction of powder foundry equipment into an existing automotive parts manufacturing environment. You will manage communication with multiple suppliers, oversee the sourcing and installation of new capital equipment, and coordinate process trials to determine the equipment quantities required to meet parts demand. The position plays a key role in navigating the PPAP process and securing end-customer approval, while working hands-on and cross-functionally with various internal departments. Responsibilities Lead the end-to-end project to introduce powder foundry equipment into an established automotive parts production facility. Coordinate and manage communication with approximately 8-10 suppliers to source new capital equipment and support its successful installation. Plan and oversee equipment installation activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines, quality standards, and production requirements. Organize and coordinate process trials to evaluate equipment performance and determine the quantity and configuration needed to meet demand for parts. Drive the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) activities related to the new powder foundry process and obtain approval from the end customer. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain, to integrate the new process into existing workflows. Monitor project progress, identify risks or issues, and implement corrective actions to keep the project on schedule and within scope. Ensure that capital equipment implementation follows best practices for safety, quality, and efficiency in a powder foundry environment. Maintain clear, timely project documentation and communicate status updates to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Contribute to achieving significant cost savings targets associated with the project by optimizing equipment selection, process design, and implementation plans. Essential Skills 5+ years of project management experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Proven experience in supplier coordination, including managing multiple external partners simultaneously. Background in powder foundry processes or powder metallurgy environments. Hands-on experience with capital equipment implementation in a production setting. Familiarity with water atomization processes related to powder production or handling. Experience working with or around lead-free powders in an industrial context. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with diverse internal departments. Strong organizational and communication skills to manage complex, multi-supplier projects. Understanding of PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) or similar customer approval processes in automotive or heavy trucking industries. Additional Skills & Qualifications PMP (Project Management Professional) certification or equivalent formal project management credential. Experience with water atomization processes specifically within powder production environments. Prior exposure to automotive or heavy trucking manufacturing projects. Demonstrated ability to deliver cost savings and process improvements through capital equipment projects. Comfort working in both hands-on shop floor environments and office-based project management settings. Work Environment This role is primarily onsite at a manufacturing facility and involves a blend of hands-on work in the production environment and office-based project coordination. You will occasionally travel within the Midwest to visit suppliers, though travel is expected to be limited. The work setting is collaborative and cross-functional, bringing together teams from engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain to support a high-visibility project. The environment includes exposure to powder foundry processes, capital equipment, and automotive parts production, offering the opportunity to contribute to a major cost-saving initiative while working closely with both internal teams and external suppliers.
