POSITION SUMMARY
The House Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and oversight of the residential group home serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD). The House Manager ensures that individuals receive safe, respectful, person-centered, and consistent supports in accordance with their Individual Support Plans (ISPs), agency policies, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) requirements, and applicable licensing standards. The House Manager provides leadership to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), monitors staff performance, ensures accurate documentation, coordinates household operations, and promotes the health, safety, dignity, rights, independence, and quality of life of each individual served.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.
Individual Support and Person-Centered Services Ensure individuals receive services consistent with their ISP, Person-Centered Plan, support needs, preferences, and identified outcomes. Promote independence, choice, dignity, privacy, and community inclusion. Ensure staff provide supports using positive, respectful, and person-centered approaches. Monitor implementation of individual goals and interventions. Ensure staff understand each individual's support needs, risks, routines, preferences, and emergency procedures. Encourage meaningful activities and community participation. Monitor individuals for changes in health, behavior, mood, functioning, or support needs and report concerns appropriately. 2. Health and Safety Maintain a safe, clean, sanitary, and comfortable residential environment. Monitor compliance with health and safety procedures. Ensure required safety checks, emergency drills, inspections, and environmental checks are completed and documented. Ensure staff follow individual-specific risk protocols and emergency plans. Monitor medication administration and medication documentation according to agency policy and applicable requirements. Ensure medication counts, MARs, PRN documentation, medication storage, and medication-related records are accurate and maintained. Ensure staff follow procedures for medical appointments, transportation, emergency care, and follow-up recommendations. Report and document accidents, injuries, medication errors, health concerns, and serious incidents according to agency policy and regulatory requirements. 3. Staff Supervision and Leadership Supervise, coach, and provide direction to DSP staff assigned to the home. Ensure adequate staffing coverage and communicate staffing needs to management. Review staff attendance, punctuality, call-outs, and schedule compliance. Address staff performance concerns promptly and professionally. Assist with onboarding, orientation, and training of new staff. Ensure staff complete required training and maintain required certifications. Conduct or assist with staff meetings and training sessions. Model professional conduct, appropriate boundaries, respectful communication, and ethical behavior. Ensure staff remain engaged in assigned duties and limit personal cell phone use while working. Recognize good performance and provide corrective coaching when necessary. 4. Documentation and Recordkeeping Ensure daily progress notes and other required documentation are completed accurately, objectively, and timely. Review documentation for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the ISP. Ensure documentation reflects the individual's actual activities, supports provided, responses, progress, and outcomes. Monitor required logs, including medication records, communication logs, incident documentation, appointment records, financial records, and household records. Correct documentation errors according to agency policy and applicable requirements. Maintain organized individual and house records for review and auditing. Assist with preparation for DBHDS licensing reviews, audits, quality improvement reviews, and other inspections. 5. Residential Home Operations Maintain the home in a clean, organized, safe, and well-maintained condition. Ensure cleaning responsibilities are completed each shift. Monitor laundry, trash removal, kitchen cleanliness, bathrooms, bedrooms, common areas, and general household organization. Monitor food supplies, household supplies, personal care items, and other necessary materials. Report maintenance concerns promptly. Ensure appliances, furnishings, safety equipment, and household items remain in safe working condition. Assist with maintaining an appropriate household schedule and routine. Ensure staff complete assigned household responsibilities before engaging in non-work-related activities. 6. Community Integration Promote meaningful community participation based on each individual's interests and ISP outcomes. Ensure transportation and community outings are planned safely. Encourage individuals to make choices about activities, meals, shopping, recreation, and other community experiences. Ensure staff provide appropriate supervision during community activities. Maintain required community outing and activity documentation. 7. Individual Rights and Protection Protect the rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality of all individuals served. Ensure individuals are treated with respect and free from abuse, neglect, exploitation, discrimination, and unnecessary restrictions. Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other reportable concerns according to applicable requirements. Ensure individuals are provided opportunities to make choices and participate in decisions affecting their lives. Maintain professional boundaries with individuals, families, visitors, and staff. 8. Family and Professional Communication Maintain professional communication with families, guardians, case managers/support coordinators, healthcare providers, supervisors, and other authorized professionals. Communicate significant changes or concerns regarding individuals to appropriate management personnel. Participate in meetings related to individuals' services when requested. Maintain confidentiality when discussing individuals and agency business. 9. Quality Improvement and Compliance Participate in the agency's Quality Improvement (QI) program. Monitor trends in incidents, complaints, documentation errors, medication errors, health and safety concerns, and staff performance. Assist with corrective action plans and follow-up activities. Ensure identified deficiencies are addressed within required timeframes. Participate in risk management activities and help identify potential risks within the home. Maintain compliance with agency policies, DBHDS licensing requirements, and applicable laws and regulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required. Experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred. Previous supervisory or residential management experience preferred. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to complete accurate and timely documentation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions within the scope of the position. Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies and stressful situations. Ability to use basic computer programs, electronic documentation systems, email, and Microsoft Office applications. Must meet applicable background check, driving, training, and other employment requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP). Experience working in a DBHDS-licensed residential setting. Experience implementing ISPs and person-centered supports. Experience with medication administration documentation. Experience with incident reporting and risk management. Experience supervising residential staff. Knowledge of Virginia DBHDS licensing standards and ID/DD services.
PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
The House Manager must be able to: Work in a residential home environment. Move throughout the home and community with individuals served. Assist with routine household and support duties as necessary. Respond quickly to emergencies. Work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call periods when assigned. Maintain a professional demeanor when managing challenging or stressful situations.

Ensure the home remains clean, organized, and properly maintained. Address concerns promptly and communicate effectively with management. Promote individual rights, choice, independence, and community inclusion. Support continuous quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
Pay:
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
