In this vital role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including school buses, transit buses, and paratransit vehicles, to safely transport passengers of all ages. Your primary focus will be ensuring passenger safety, adhering to traffic laws and transportation safety regulations, and providing excellent customer service. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on the community by delivering reliable and safe transportation services with enthusiasm and professionalism. Duties Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and specialized transportation vehicles in accordance with state and local laws. Assist passengers with wheelchair boarding and disembarking, ensuring proper wheelchair assistance procedures are followed. Follow all traffic laws, vehicle codes, and emergency response procedures for transportation to ensure safety at all times. Conduct pre-trip inspections and routine vehicle checks to maintain optimal vehicle condition and compliance with transportation safety regulations. Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected road conditions by adjusting routes or driving strategies while maintaining passenger safety. Provide excellent customer service by communicating clearly with passengers, managing behavior, and ensuring a positive experience for all riders. Handle emergency stop procedures, first aid situations, and basic incident reporting as needed, demonstrating quick response skills and calmness under pressure. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus driving, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of transportation safety regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, state and local commercial driving laws, and emergency response procedures for transportation. Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities. Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment safely. Strong behavior management skills to ensure passenger discipline and safety during trips. Familiarity with student discipline policies if working with school-aged passengers; experience working with children or senior care is advantageous. Proficiency in writing incident reports and maintaining accurate documentation of daily operations. Defensive driving techniques combined with quick response capabilities to adapt swiftly to traffic changes or hazards.
