Job Description

Job summary Assist in overseeing all repair orders needed in the shop. This position will log what parts are needed, how much time should be allocated to make the repair and schedule the appropriate technician for the job based on their qualifications and the needs of the repair.
Requirements Education:
High School Diploma; must be able to read, write, and do basic math
Skills:
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Maintenance and transportation experience required
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software Microsoft word, Excel, and Internet
  • Ability to manage priority.
License:
Must maintain a valid driver's license; CDL (not required but helpful)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability and strength to operate a computer keyboard, copy machine, printer, fax machines, and telephone
  • Ability to climb one flight of stairs
  • Ability to lift shop equipment weighing up to 80 pounds Responsibilities
  • Assist the Service Manager with daily duties.
  • Coordinate parts requirements needed for repairs to be performed on jobs overseen by you with the parts department.
  • Ensure parts are ordered and available when needed to prevent work delays.
  • Ensure repair orders are monitored for job quality (rework), labor times, parts billing, accuracy and notes.
  • Allocate time needed for repairs and close prepared repair orders in a timely fashion.
  • Shop planning and scheduling with pre diagnosis and assignment of work when possible.
  • Organize and assign work assignments to technicians based on training and experience.
  • Communicate with Service Manager on all scheduled work, repair order follow up, required tech follow up and other ongoing programs.
  • Communicate scheduled and closed jobs/repairs with Operations, Dispatchers and other parties requiring information with assistance of Service Scheduler.
  • Handle Road Calls when on duty.
  • Assist in the shop as required; hands on training direction.
  • Oversee the productivity of the shop floor.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times
  • Monitor work in progress to maintain control of workflow and shop production
  • Establish and maintain acceptable standards of cleanliness for all shop areas
  • Maintain a professional and positive work atmosphere at all times
  • Ensure required paperwork and reports are submitted in a timely and accurate manner Learn and adhere to all applicable company rules, policies and procedures Communicate and enforce all company rules, policies and procedures Interact with all drivers, peers & all company employees both internal and external in a cooperative friendly manner Enthusiastically support the Drive for Five initiative and all company quality and safety improvement efforts.
Evaluate mechanic job performance, provide discipline as required. Prepare and administer proper documentation as required to support employee disciplinary actions to include employee warnings and terminations. Report all accidents, injuries, and safety incidents and personnel disciplinary actions using proper forms.
