Interior Designer / Design Assistant Annie Kern Interiors | Kansas City, MO Full-Time Position Annie Kern Interiors is seeking a talented, highly organized Interior Designer / Design Assistant to join our residential interior design practice in Kansas City. We're looking for a talented designer who has a strong design eye, solid technical skills, and demonstrated experience working on real-world interior design projects . This is a hands-on position working directly with Principal Designer Annie Kern across all phases of residential projects—from initial concepts and space planning through sourcing, documentation, purchasing and installation. This is a full-time, approximately 40-hour-per-week position with the opportunity to grow with the practice, take on increasing responsibility and become an integral part of a small residential design studio. What You'll Do You'll assist with projects throughout the design process, including: Developing floor plans, elevations and design documentation Creating presentation materials, mood boards and client-facing design packages Sourcing furniture, lighting, textiles, finishes, fixtures and accessories Researching products and vendors and requesting pricing, samples and lead times Preparing and maintaining specifications, schedules and project documentation Organizing samples, materials and the design library Communicating and coordinating with vendors, showrooms, contractors and other project partners Tracking orders, deliveries and project details Participating in site visits and project meetings Assisting with installations, styling and project photography preparation Helping keep multiple projects organized and moving forward
What We're Looking For Required:
Degree or formal training in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or a closely related field and/or strong relevant professional experience Demonstrated experience working on real-world interior design projects beyond classroom/studio work Proficiency in AutoCAD or comparable professional drafting software, with the ability to produce accurate floor plans, elevations and design documentation Strong visual and spatial design instincts Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on details Resourcefulness, initiative and a willingness to take ownership Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally to project sites, vendors and showrooms Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when assisting with samples, deliveries and installations Nice to
Have:
Previous experience interacting directly with interior design clients Residential interior design experience Experience coordinating with contractors, trades, vendors and showrooms Proficiency or experience with SketchUp, Revit and/or other relevant design, presentation or project-management software The Right Fit We're looking for someone who enjoys both the creative and practical sides of interior design . One day might involve developing a floor plan or sourcing furniture and fabrics; another might involve visiting a job site, preparing for a client presentation, tracking down a delayed fixture or helping with an installation. We're looking for someone who is excited to learn, willing to jump in, and takes pride in getting the details right. For the right person, there is room to grow with the practice—taking on increasing responsibility, greater client exposure and more involvement in the design process over time.

$30-35/ hour, based on experience and qualifications
