Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Put your sign language interpretation expertise to work in an educational environment, providing essential communication access for students and staff. Bring your skills as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) and play a pivotal role in breaking down communication barriers in the classroom.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience interpreting in school or youth-centered settings preferred Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) a plus Strong interpersonal and listening skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards Flexible, adaptive, and collaborative approach to working with students and educational staff
Key Responsibilities:
Provide accurate and effective ASL interpretation between students, staff, and peers Facilitate communication during classroom instruction, activities, and meetings Adapt interpreting style to various subjects and communication needs Ensure access to the curriculum in alignment with each student's IEP or 504 plan Maintain professionalism, impartiality, and confidentiality at all times Offer support and clarification to students as requested, while preserving independence Gather and relay relevant classroom details to aid in service delivery and student understanding This assignment offers a unique chance to build impactful connections and foster accessible learning.
