Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in an engaging educational environment near Magalia. This full-time position (approximately 30 hours per week) is ideal for individuals passionate about facilitating communication for hard of hearing and deaf students across middle and high school settings. Immediate openings are available, with ongoing needs anticipated throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
Preferred qualifications and experience:
Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) or a score of 4.0 or higher on the EIPA, ESSE-I/R, or
NAD/ACCI
assessments Candidates with an EIPA score below 4.0 are also welcome to apply (position will be classified as ASL Para) Experience facilitating communication in educational settings Proficiency in both sign-to-voice and voice-to-sign interpreting Comfort assisting learners in academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, and life skills Ability to work effectively with students in classroom, vocational, and community environments Key responsibilities: Facilitate clear communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing, their peers, teachers, and staff Provide accurate interpretation and support students' participation in academic, social, and extracurricular activities Support students in a variety of settings, including classroom instruction and outdoor or community-based learning Offer individualized academic assistance when needed Monitor engagement and student progress throughout the school day This is an onsite-only role, with caseloads in both middle and high school; candidate preference will be considered during placement.
