Job Description

The Nurse Director will be responsible for the day-to-day clinical operations of Pacific Surgery Center adhering to the vision and by-laws set forth by the Board of Directors as well as rules and regulations set forth by local, state, and federal governing bodies. The Director will be responsible for clinical operations in coordination with the Board of Directors. The Director will be responsible for clinical staff recruitment, evaluation, development, and retention. The Director will develop and coordinate Performance Improvement measures for the center. The Director will meet and report regularly to the Administrator, the Board of Directors, and the Medical Director.
AREAS OF SUPERVISION CLINICAL SUPERVISION AND STAFFING
 Supervise all clinical staff to ensure an efficient, smooth and well run operating environment including optimizing patient safety and reducing the likelihood of medical healthcare errors.  Oversees the development and maintenance of clear, concise, and current written policies and procedures, making them available to assist the nursing staff and minimize risk factors.  Oversee and coordinate anesthesia coverage.  Communicate regularly to the staff the goals, directives, policies, and procedures of the center, including regular monthly meetings with all staff.  Coordinate Training of Staff/New Hire Training.  Oversee the successful completion of required orientation program for all new personnel. Review employee time sheets for correctness.
HUMAN RESOURCES
 Determine staffing requirements and patterns, based on scope of services, complexity of patient acuity and fiscal resources.  Participate with the Administrator in the hiring, oversight, discipline and retention of clinical and front office staff, including recommendations for salary adjustments, promotions and / or termination.  Work with Administrator in resolving HR problems with staff  Encourages staff towards self-improvement and education and monitors progress toward department goals of performance.  Coordinates and implements employee performance evaluations on all department employees.  Facilitates staff attendance at facility educational programs as well as outside seminars by coordinating staff.  Keep employee human resources files up to date for CPR, ACLS, PALS, TB, License, staff review and annual training.
MEDICAL EXPENSE/SUPPLY BUDGET
 Coordinate with Clinical Supervisor in administration of purchasing and budget program. Monitor supply budget set by Clinical Supervisor.  Communicate budget to staff & physicians  Work with Clinical Supervisor and Administrator to initiate corrective action for budget variances.
MEDICAL MANAGEMENT
 Provides guidelines for measuring the quality of patient care, based on accepted standards of nursing practice.  Oversee environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health issues.  Oversee Safety & OSHA Programs Oversee Credentialing.  Work with Clinical Supervisor on maintenance and updating Policy and Procedures and CS updates.  Coordinate and maintain exposure control plan, CPPE, BBR.  Maintain and update contracts.  Oversee YAG Officer, or act as Laser Safety Officer is no one is appointed.  Monitor radiation safety principles.  Oversee patient, family member or surgeon problems and/or complaints. Call physicians if any problems/ questions with the schedule  Sharps Injury Log/ Workers Comp claims as needed Supervise Quality Improvement program  Oversee collection and reporting of Satisfaction Survey information Oversee HIPPA compliance  Coordinate weekly meetings with Administrator and Clinical Director.  Coordinate Monthly Staff meetings, including Disaster Plans and Fire Drills.  Attend and report to Board of Directors on Quarterly basis. Provide Medical minutes for the board meetings. Produce monthly surgical volume report for administrator.  Communicate and coordinate intra and inter-department information regarding cancellations and add-ons, review and oversee surgery schedule, document, log and provide stats for incident reports and satisfaction surveys.
