An Adult Basic Education or Literacy Instructor works with adults, including young adults who are out of school, to improve literacy and strengthen basic skills in reading, writing and math. Helps students to learn English or gain a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. Assesses students' educational levels, skills and goals, and differentiates instruction as needed for adults at different levels in one class. May focus on basic skills as needed for a particular occupation, or assist students with developing study skills or job search skills, or help students connect with social services.

COMMENSURATE WITH EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
Location:
Sumter County Correctional Institute General Duties:

Provides instruction in academic areas of Science, Mathematics, Language (Reading and Writing), and social sciences for HSE (GED/HiSET) preparation. Maintains the established routines and procedures of the college and classroom to which they are assigned. Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Dean of Adult Education. Promotes adult education programs to public and private organizations and the general public—other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university, preferably in education or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have at least three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years in an education-related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills. Must be student-oriented and customer-friendly. A Valid Driver's License is required.

Compensation:

Commensurate with education and experience. The position is part-time, temporary, and less than 15 hours per week.

Reports to:

Dean of Adult Education Availability Must have availability to teach different schedules, including night and day classes.
