Visiting Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English at Wittenberg University seeks to hire a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor of American Literature beginning August 1, 2026. This is a one-year visiting position with the opportunity for renewal or conversion to a tenure-track line. Teaching responsibilities include 24 credits per academic year (a 3/3 teaching load) of upper-level courses in American literature (16th century to Present), as well as general education literature courses. While not required, those with experience teaching or publishing in the field of Narrative Medicine or World Anglophone literature are particularly encouraged to apply. Participation in departmental and University committees, and service to the campus and larger community are required. We are a small and collegial department that offers its faculty a high level of autonomy.
